Part-Time work schedule will not exceed twenty (20) hours per week.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist in the attainment of District goals through safe and courteous supervision of children being transported between home and school.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification RequirementsHigh school graduate or GED equivalent, preferredMust be 21 years of age or olderValid Texas Class "B" or "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements for school bus driver (persons hired with class "C" driver's license must obtain the class "B" CDL license with endorsements within 45 days of employment). Safe driving record as verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meet and maintain liability coverage eligibility)Certification as Texas Bus Driver by the Texas Education Agency (requirement satisfied by successful completion of 20 hours Texas Department of Public Safety course)Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background checkSpecial Knowledge and Skills
Must meet alcohol and controlled substance testing requirements set forth by the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991Must pass annual medical examination per Department of Transportation (DOT) regulationsAbility to complete required bus driver safety trainingAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to communicate effectivelyKnowledge of student discipline procedureAbility to manage student behaviorAbility to operate busAbility to understand instructions and communicate in basic EnglishAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Ensure the safe transportation of students on school routes, program routes and field tripsDrive the school bus safely, following all applicable laws and district administrative policies and regulations governing the transportation of studentsCheck the vehicle before each trip to determine that it is in satisfactory operation conditionKeep windshields, lights and "School Bus" signs clear and visible, and keeps vehicle servicedNotify dispatcher if bus is dirty after being used by another driverComplete and maintain a daily maintenance listMake timely reports, on district forms, of any mechanical problemsCare for the vehicle by keeping students informed of their responsibilities as ridersKeep the interior of the vehicle cleanDrive bus routes as approved and specifiedMaintain good community relations by establishing proper rapport with all personnel and studentsMaintain order and follows district regulations in an emergency situationMaintain discipline on the bus at all times, and report daily any violations or misconduct of the students to the school principal or assistant principalMaintain discipline and assist students while boarding or exiting the bus.Assign seats to all bus riders as applicableKeep an updated copy of the bus route and emergency student rider form availableHelp fasten appropriate child safety restraint systemsAttend all required training sessionsDrive a school bus with or without students on boardPerform other duties as assigned, based on department needsMust complete designated district technology proficiencies each yearRequires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skillsAbility to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resourcesMaintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearanceEnsure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of EthicsDaily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the jobSupervisory Responsibilities:
