Job Description Summary

The Advanced Lead Engineer – PD Mechanical Design supports multiple aspects of preliminary engine design, including turbomachinery layout, weight/cost estimation and trades. They will own the design of modules and systems to develop the preliminary design cross section. The Advanced Lead Engineer will work with the design team to develop innovative design concepts, simultaneously meeting aggressive cost and performance targets for key next generation engine applications. They will lead multi-functional and global teams to find optimal systems level solutions to new challenges. This role will focus on the support of advanced commercial programs, where they will help guide, influence, and drive technology choices for our next generation of engines.

Job Description

In the role of Advanced Lead Engineer – PD Mechanical Design, you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Additionally, in the role of Advanced Lead Engineer - Mechanical Design, your responsibilities will include:

Work with focals across Aerospace to shape cross-section, weight, cost, and maintenance strategy for PD and GE Aerospace

Coordinate with our broad global team and business partners to deliver technical solutions.

Support the cross-section development for preliminary design architecture studies, including weight, product cost, or life-cycle cost roll ups, and technology assessments to support successful execution of program deliverables

Lead preliminary design of modules and systems to find optimal solutions at the engine level.

Support & lead durability, weight or cost reviews / audits as required for customer commitments and design space studies

Lead the development and integration of parametric tools to enable design space exploration and optimization studies. Adapt existing tools to new applications and challenges.

Establish new PD processes and standard work to ensure efficient and repeatable deliverables.

Identify new inventions and prepare disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company

Execute with guidance the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements

Guide early career engineers in the PD mech global team on their work

Recommend approach to meet the technical and program requirements

Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules and contract commitments

Develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems

Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments

Lead or participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and / or tasks

Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

Required Qualifications

Bachelor degree an accredited University or College

Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering position

Desired Characteristics

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university

5 years of experience in a mechanical engineering, supply chain, sourcing, or manufacturing operations position

Experience estimating weight, product cost, maintenance cost, and design parameters early in engine development programs

Experience with Unigraphics NX

Exposure to compressor or turbine aerodynamics

Exposure to engine cycle & performance

Prior experience leading global cross-functional teams

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

Ability to guide and influence others

Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work

Exposure to both military and commercial engine design requirements

Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business

Problem analysis and resolution skills

Systems level thinking, incorporating understanding of the overall engine to influence mechanical design.
