DESCRIPTION

As part of our Transportation team, the Traffic Engineer will develop ITS, fiber optic, traffic signal, traffic control, signing, and pavement marking plans, as well as perform traffic operational analyses. The Traffic Engineer will utilize their knowledge and skills to support our project teams in delivery of projects through planning and design.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The best part of being a Traffic Engineer at Michael Baker is that with a wide variety of clients and projects, no two days will be the same. You will face different challenges every day, some of which will be extraordinarily complex.

Most days will be spent in the office managing and carrying out the traffic tasks on a variety of surface transportation design projects. Many of these projects will begin in the traffic forecasting task, proceed through traffic analysis and conclude with the design of traffic signals, signal communications, and ITS systems.

Coordinating with colleagues across the region, you will support the Transportation Engineering Team by preparing scopes and fees for traffic engineering tasks, organizing personnel to complete tasks, and attending technical meetings with agency staff and clients.

Support the preparation of technical proposals and conducting business development activities.

Work on transportation infrastructure projects for Caltrans and local agencies.

Be available to occasionally travel to other local offices.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

6+ years of progressive traffic engineering design and operational experience.

California P.E. certification. T.E. and or PTOE certification is a plus.

Experience working with Caltrans and local municipalities.

Proficient computer skills in MicroStation and AutoCAD and in traffic operations software Synchro, TruTraffic, and HCS. Experience with SignCAD is desirable.

Experience with traffic signal timing is desirable.

Experience in field operations or on-site trouble shooting for controller cabinets and signal equipment is desirable.

Proficient in preparing technical reports and memorandums.

Proficient skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Attention to detail, effective decision making, and organizational skills.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to manage and prioritize project assignments to meet competing deadlines and manage staff.

Ability to work independently and within a team setting to support project delivery.

COMPENSATIONThe salary range for this position is $110,000-$145,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
