This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Architectural Lighting Designer for our Los Angeles, CA office. Other locations will be considered. Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings – Specialty Services Lighting Design Group and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges.
This is a full-time position where you will work with a team of lighting design experts in the WSP lighting studios who provide lighting solutions for commercial, healthcare, hospitality, civic, stadiums, exterior landscapes, data centers, government, and educational facilities. Our studios are dedicated to exploring and enhancing the user experience. By collaborating closely with client and design teams and other specialty groups within WSP, we provide inspired lighting solutions that leverage all project disciplines.
Your Impact
Provide day-to-day design and technical support on a variety of lighting projects.
Implement design concepts, develop lighting design strategies and design presentations through research, design collaboration, in-house mock-ups, and architectural coordination for all project types.
Conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, layout, and systems to determine conformance with applicable standards and codes.
Coordinate various design, installation, and integration issues relating to creating state of the art lighting design that is innovative and inspiring, developing luminaire and controls specifications, applying daylighting/harvesting, and creating spaces that impact building capabilities, ambiance, safety, and security.
Prepare complete, accurate, and concise documentation and specifications using electronic systems, artistic renderings, drawings, diagrams, illustrations, spreadsheets, and reports.
Perform lighting calculations, analysis and rendering studies and use results to inform project decisions.
Attend team and/or project meetings and interface with internal specialty groups.
Job-site visits during construction and development of reports.
Complete training on assigned tasks.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, Theater Production Design or related degree.
3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience.
Prior lighting design experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.
Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.
Proficiency with sustainable architectural lighting strategies, principles, and practices.
Strong creative skills with an ability to balance architectural lighting aesthetics and client desires with practical concerns.
Ability to work independently under senior level supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
Proficiency with artistic renderings, Microsoft Office Suite, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
Proficiency with discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, InDesign, AGI32, Sketchup).
The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to render using Photoshop of other similar software.
Working knowledge of energy codes and LEED.
Prior work with lighting design or related design firm.
A member of and/or actively participates in local professional practice organizations. Compensation and Benefits:

Expected Salary: $$78,500-$103,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
