Mach Industries, Huntington Beach, California, us, 92615
Mach is a defense manufacturing company that builds munitions to help the United States win future wars. Backed by $85M in funding from top venture firms, our small lean team ideates, designs, manufactures, and sells cutting-edge weapons to the Department of Defense.
Role Summary:
We're seeking a Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer to take a lead role in the development of next-generation defense technologies, including but not limited to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), missiles, and advanced weapon systems. This role calls for a highly skilled individual capable of creating and implementing algorithms and models that will significantly impact the performance and reliability of our products in complex operational environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Algorithm Development: Design, simulate, and implement GNC algorithms for various defense systems. Modeling and Simulation: Develop mathematical models and conduct simulations to test and validate GNC algorithms under realistic conditions. Flight Testing: Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to integrate GNC systems into prototypes and participate in flight tests for data collection and system validation. Data Analysis: Analyze flight test and simulation data to assess system performance and to recommend adjustments to GNC algorithms. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to ensure the integration of the GNC system within the overall product architecture. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of GNC designs, algorithms, and test results for internal review and regulatory compliance. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all GNC-related activities meet industry and defense standards for safety and performance. Troubleshooting: Provide expertise in diagnosing and solving issues that arise during the development, testing, or operational phases. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years experience in GNC system design and development. Proficiency in simulation or software development tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, C++, or Rust. Strong foundation in control theory, Kalman filtering, and state estimation. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in a related field. Experience with real-time operating systems. Experience with aerodynamics and flight vehicle stability and control. Familiarity with defense industry standards and regulations. Security clearance or the ability to obtain one. Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is an innovative yet disciplined engineer with a deep understanding of GNC principles and algorithms. Experience in the defense industry and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams are highly valued. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make a substantial impact in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
