Job SummaryThe Technical Specialist will be responsible for problem-solving the more challenging Blood Bank workups, providing real-time guidance for coworkers and patient care providers, troubleshooting equipment issues and aiding in the review of Blood Bank records. The Technical Specialist maintains up-to-date knowledge of CAP, AABB and FDA standards and regulations to ensure continuous compliance. The Technical Specialist will work with the Director of Transfusion Medicine and the Blood Bank Manager to develop and maintain policies and procedures that reflect best manufacturing practices. The Technical Specialist will also play a vital role in the training and development of Blood Bank staff.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Biological Science- At least 6 years experience in immunohematology of which, 4 years training or experience, or both in high complexity testing as a medical technologist required.For Biological Science degreed applicants, must confirm registry eligibility before applying or have already registered as a Medical Technologist by certification examination.Completion of a twelve (12) month internship in a Medical Technology program approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

1-2 year(s) supervisory experience preferred

Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) Certificate preferred

OR

Master's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Biological Science: At least 3 years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience in immunohematology, of which, 2 years training or experience, or both in high complexity testing as a medical technologist required.

Completion of a twelve (12) month internship in a Medical Technology program approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

1-2 year(s) supervisory experience preferred.

Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) Certificate preferred

Licensures, Certifications, and/or Registries

Registry as Medical Technologist with a national board of registry - ASCP or equivalent required.Must have good working knowledge of CLIA and must have operational knowledge of regulatory requirements for CAP, AABB, FDA, OSHA and Joint Commission.
