Counsel, Compliance (Primary Job Title: "Counsel & Director of Compliance") , you will have responsibility for Yipit’s corporate and regulatory compliance program, with a primary focus on product and data compliance. As a member of the legal team at a dynamic and fast-growing company in a massively expanding industry, you will have ample opportunity to work on a variety of unique compliance matters while partnering with product, research, sales, data and engineering teams across the U.S. and APAC.This is a remote-friendly opportunity that can sit in NYC (where our headquarter is located), one of our office hubs (Austin, Miami, Denver, Mountain View, or Seattle), or anywhere else in the US.
However, depending upon where the remote work is performed, income could be subject to New York State tax withholding.As Our Counsel & Director of Compliance, You Will:Integrate into the day-to-day operations of our product, research and data teams, providing legal, business and strategic advice to enable execution of the company’s roadmap without compromising legal protection.Provide oversight and legal advice with respect to YipitData’s global compliance program, including evaluating product and privacy risks in our data products, overseeing our company’s due diligence responses for product sales, and advising on regulatory risks in the chain of consent for data licensing deals.Review new technologies and unique data sets which will be analyzed and transformed by our product and research teams into research reports, data feeds and dashboards.Lead company-wide strategic initiatives including advising senior management, and coordinating and driving cross-stakeholder alignment on complex projects.Collaborate with the company's product, research and data licensing teams to counsel on legal issues across the entire product lifecycle (from initial research and development and beyond), identifying potential risks and advising on risk-mitigation strategies.Exercise impeccable judgment in escalating issues or engaging other stakeholders - such as identifying issues that may be outside the scope of your subject-matter expertise, and working with other members of the Legal team or outside counsel.Develop and operationalize forward-looking policies and procedures, anticipating likely future regulatory and other developments in the emerging laws relating to alternative data without compromising YipitData’s growth.Maintain an up to date understanding of laws and regulatory developments impacting alternative data e.g. CFAA decisions, SEC enforcement actions, and private terms such as App Store Guidelines, and API policies.Partner with and advise global cross-functional teams, including data partnerships, sales engineering and app engineers on a wide range of compliance projects. Identify potential areas of compliance risk and recommend, or as necessary, develop corrective action plans for problem resolution.You Are Likely To Succeed If:You have a Juris Doctor degree (or foreign equivalent) and active law license in at least one state in good standing (or eligibility to register as authorized in-house counsel).You have at least 5 years of experience practicing law at a major law firm or in the legal department of a financial, tech or high-growth company.You are familiar with U.S. and global laws relating to product compliance, data and technology, privacy and public securities.You are a pragmatic and thoughtful advisor. You are confident distilling complex issues into key risks and providing succinct advice that can be operationalized by business leaders.You are highly analytical and energized by engaging with substantive legal topics.You are adept at balancing legal risks and commercial interests, and comfortable navigating ambiguity.You can move quickly, without sacrificing quality. You have demonstrated experience leading large, sensitive matters within defined timeframes.You are comfortable simultaneously managing large workloads, competing client demands, and shifting priorities within a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.You’re intellectually curious and driven to independently learn about emerging areas of law.You are interested in alternative data, and excited about setting the gold-standard for compliance in our industry.What We Offer:Our compensation package includes comprehensive benefits, perks, equity, and a competitive salary:The annual base salary for this position is anticipated to be $175,000-195,000. The final offer will be determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the applicant's individual work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal team benchmarks.This role may be performed fully remotely within the United States. Please note that our US headquarters are located in NYC. We also have office hubs in Austin, Miami, Denver, Mountain View, and Seattle.
