Inspired to develop high-quality healthcare providers who are committed to achieving population health and wellness and serving the common good, the SoRS faculty and staff are partners in the pursuit of excellence in educating healthcare/ rehabilitation professionals who will be sought out by employers, collaborators, patients, and clients for their compassion, positive spirit, and innovation. Founded in 2012 as the School of Physical Therapy, the SoRS currently houses Doctor of Physical Therapy ( DPT ), Occupational Therapy Doctorate ( OTD ), and Master of Science in Athletic Training ( MSAT ) programs, two

FSBPT -accredited residency programs in sports physical therapy and pediatric physical therapy, and a community clinic offering healthcare services to under- or uninsured individuals. The

program has candidacy status by

ACOTE .

Reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean will be the chief academic administrator of the SoRS through academic and administrative leadership, the champion for student, faculty, and staff success and inclusive excellence, and the principal advocate for SoRS and its programs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership and passion in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and global engagement, and possess an eagerness to embrace the healing ministry of

Catholic service mission with a deep understanding of addressing social inequities and justice through education.

The Dean will contribute to strategic operations and resource decisions that promote the welfare and success of the entire

UIW

system. As the chief academic administrator of the SoRS, the Dean will be responsible for the long-term strategic planning and ethical management of the school’s academic, fiscal, physical, and human resources. The Dean will promote academic excellence and innovation, scholarly activity and research, service, and faculty/staff professional growth and development. The Dean will create and support strategic academic partnerships and collaborations with academic and community institutions, and provide effective leadership in implementing the vision, mission, and strategic plan of the School and the University of the Incarnate Word.

The Dean must understand accreditation processes and the academic processes for promotion and tenure. The Dean must have an earned academic doctoral degree and a scholarly record suitable for a tenured appointment at the professor rank in athletic training, occupational therapy, or physical therapy.

schools to synergize resources and services that improve effectiveness and reduce institutional expenses.Monitor the progress towards the School’s strategic plan, leading the faculty and/or administrators to adjust the plan as needed and appropriate.Effectively and proactively represent the University’s vision and mission, strategic goals, policies and procedures, and administrative decisions to the School’s faculty, staff, and students.Collaborate effectively across the university and communicate resource needs to achieve School and institutional goals.Provide oversight of the accreditation of the School’s academic programs.Ensure effective oversight of the implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of the School’s academic programs and compliance with accreditation standards.Collaborate effectively with student services to market the School’s academic programs, enhance the applicant pool, and grow enrollments consistent with University goals and resources.Work collaboratively to establish and staff the school’s organizational structure to achieve the best strategic plan.Coordinate the School’s leadership committee; serve on other university and professional committees as appointed.Provide recommendations on the continued employment, promotion, and tenure of the School’s faculty, based on the promotion and tenure guidelines and considering the recommendations of the various faculty committees and department chairs.Develop, monitor, and adjust the annual budget linked to the school’s strategic plan.On the recommendation of their respective committees, admit applicants to the student body, place students on academic probation, and/or suspend students from the School.Serve as the School’s final arbitrator of student, faculty, and staff disputes.Promote the school’s involvement in interprofessional education and collaborative practice.Collaborate with various university services as they relate specifically to the School and its programs and personnel.Successfully enhance the visibility and recognition of the School and its respective programs with key stakeholders and constituents in the community and the respective professions.Provide effective oversight and leadership in developing new programs and innovative delivery methods (including online pathways) to expand the reach and appeal of existing programs, both nationally and internationally.Seek external resources to support the School’s programs and initiatives, through grants and contracts, and in collaboration with the University’s development office.Perform other responsibilities as assigned.Qualifications
