Summary:
The CertifiedMedical Assistant (CMA) provides patient care in accordance with establishedmethods and techniques and conforms to recognized standards. The CertifiedMedical Assistant (CMA) assists practitioner in performing procedures,telephone prescription orders/refills, maintaining patient records and relayingtest results.
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Will participate and maintain a culture within The Corvallis Clinic consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards document. To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, and embrace the principles contained within.
2. Directs patient flow and prepares patients forexams.
3. Obtains chief complaint, patient history, vitalsigns, and any other pertinent information and ensures accurate documentationin the EHR in a timely manner.
4. Retrieves and communicates laboratory andradiology test results and instructs patients regarding medications andtreatment per practitioner's instructions.
5. Accepts and returns patient phone calls in atimely manner, as per provider direction, with accurate documentation.
6. Assists providers with clinical procedures asdirected per national standards of practice.
7. Improves the quality of care through continuingeducation and self-evaluation of the effectiveness of care. This includesattendance and participation in most in-services/department meetings andremaining current on clinic/department policies and procedures.
8. Proactively monitors provider schedules foraccuracy.
9. Performsinjections under direct supervision of provider per clinic policy, as needed.
10. Actively participate in the cleaning of sharedwork areas. Keeping exam rooms clean,neat and stocked.
11. Participates in the orientation and training ofnew employees.
Education, Licensure and Experience:
1. High school diploma orequivalent required.
2. Certificatefrom a medical assistant program required (AAMA, NHA, AMT, or NCCT).
3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationor ability to complete BLS certification within 90 days of hire required.
Knowledge and Skills:
1. Effective written and oral communication skillsto explain complex issues to patients and caregivers as well as internal teammembers.
2. Ability to work well with providers, clinical staff,and patients.
3. Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneouslyin a busy, fast-paced environment while maintaining quality of work.
4. Ability to remain calm and effective inemergency situations.
5. Ability to work with a diverse population andunderstand the age-related differences in caring for and/or communicating withpatients and caregivers.
6. Ability to tactfully discuss issues and developcooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
