Req #27The Katahdin Railcar Services General Manager manages and coordinates employees engaged in railcar (tank, boxcar, lumber car, and/or other freight cars) repair and cleaning, ensures optimum efficiency and financial stability of the operations, and is responsible for employees' compliance with safety, quality and company metrics / measurements.Responsibilities:Review and assess plant operation, workload, scheduled car flow and back log hours. Ensure that location assets are in place to meet efficiencies, productivity, and company metrics.Enforce plant targets/goals regarding staffing, training, safety, quality, tools, equipment, material, and production metrics.Interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to maintain a positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers.Establish strong relationships with customers and resolve discrepancies timely.Assist in the preparation of shop budgets and capital projects.Monitor productivity, safety and quality of work in all areas (flare pad, tank cleaning, valve rebuilds, and main repair).Requirements:High School diploma or GED.Bachelor’s degree in business management, engineering, or similar field is preferred.5+ years of progressive experience in railcar repair maintenance facilities, including supervisory experience.Proficient in railroad mechanical operations, AAR interchange rules, FRA regulations, and OSHA standards. Must have knowledge of AAR M-1002 and M-1003 certification requirements, and Tank Car Maintenance Regulations.Possess strong analytical and customer service skills, is self-motivated, organized, goal oriented, and able to work with and motivate a team.Ability to prioritize and execute multiple goals.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to read, interpret, and dissect accounting reports (financial statements, cash balances, and P&L Reports) to determine areas that may need cost controls or improve profitability.Ability to meet all pre-placement qualification to include background, physical, drug screen25% travel to various Transtar locations.
