Under the direction of the DASH Program Lead, the

Diversion Specialist

works with those who are at imminent risk of homelessness and/or those who have lost their housing by assisting them with finding alternate solutions to entering shelter or unsheltered homelessness. The Diversion Specialist will spend considerable time with clients in immediate need to complete an assessment, work to develop creative, alternate housing solutions and connect them to needed mainstream resources.HIGHLIGHTSConduct initial screening to assess appropriate service suggestions and facilitate setting appointments for referrals and/or services.Develop comprehensive housing stabilization plans in partnership with eligible service recipients to address needs impacting housing stabilization.Provide referrals for other community resources and maintain consistent communication channels between relevant parties (i.e. tenant, landlord, referral source, collaborating agencies).Ensure accurate and complete entry of client information in the Homeless Client Information System (HMIS).Full-time | 40 hours per week | $24.04 per hourBenefit Eligible (Medical, free DMO dental & free vision) including 6 weeks PTO & 11 HolidaysRequirementsBachelor’s degree in a mental health discipline orAssociate’s degree with 2+ years of work experience.Knowledge of poverty and homelessness causes, trends, issues and solutions.Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.Strong judgment and problem-solving abilities to work with citizens, businesses, and others in emotional/stressful situations.Strong expertise in strengths-based, solution-focused practice.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Knowledge and experience working with diverse cultures and ethnicities.Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner.Proficient in MS Office products, as well as general computer literacy.Bilingual skills are preferred/ a plus.Valid NJ Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
