Scope of Position:

Responsible for maintaining a systematic set of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) compliant accounting records, monthly financial statements, analysis of financial results, and coordination of the annual and revised budgeting process.

Advising the Divisional Finance Director on grant and contract financial matters; providing guidance to other Finance employees.

Consultant to the Program Directors/Managers, Field Officers and staff in grant and contract financial matters.

Responsible for the grant and contract analysis, oversight and successful audit of grant and contract activity.

Responsible for the delivery of timely and accurate invoicing and accounting for all Denver Metro Social Services department of the Intermountain Division.

Education and Work Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration from an accredited university

Two (2) years government contracts accounting experience and a minimum of five (5) years of computerized accounting experience.

MBA, CMA or CPA, and continuing professional education in Non-profit Finance (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Professional understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and FASB Standards pertinent to The Salvation Army.

Computer proficiency in Shelby Accounting Software, Vivid Reporting Software, and Microsoft Office suite, including intermediate to advanced Excel.

The ability to operate 10-key touch and other standard office equipment in an efficient manner.

The ability to address multiple projects in a time sensitive manner is essential.

The ability to present oneself in a professional manner and maintain confidentiality.

The ability to interact with Corps Officers (executive managers), Program Directors, management and co-workers in a positive manner.

Essential Functions:

Grant and contract billing and financial reporting with follow-up on outstanding receivables.

Working with government agency contacts and program directors to ensure contract compliance.

Grant and contract variance analysis.

Ongoing team collaboration.

Proactive communication with Program Directors, grantors and agencies, ensuring issues are promptly addressed and key matters are kept up to date.

Procurement policy compliance.

Ensuring our financials are audit ready for government grants and contract audits.

Assists with Grant and Contract budgeting, forecasting and the potential revision of budgets and staffing tables.

Single audit preparation.

Provide financial information, as required, to grant writers in the preparation of grants.

Special projects as assigned.
