Counsel of Professional Liability Claims

The Counsel of Professional Liability Claims will work with Professional Liability team members. This position will be responsible for the resolution of management liability primary claims of average to high complexity and low to mid exposure. The primary purpose of this job is to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle assigned claims by collecting and analyzing data according to policy application and/or contract provisions. The position will have responsibility for decision making within their authority and work under the general direction from their manager.Responsibilities• Analyze and confirm coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims.• Draft complex coverage position letters and communicate coverage positions.• Investigate, negotiate, and settle primary management liability claims.• Evaluate information on liability and damages to determine the extent of insured's exposure.• Set reserves within authority or make recommendations concerning reserve changes to manager.• Prepare reports by collecting and summarizing information.• Manage litigation filed nationwide against insureds; appoint, direct and manage defense counsel; proactively work toward expeditious and economical resolution of claims.• Promptly communicate with management on adverse claim developments and provide information on pertinent issues affecting product line.• Communicate with underwriting as needed to manage claims and to alert of any significant developments.• Work in a collaborative team environment.• Participate in special projects or assist other team members as requested.• Represent Company in mediations, settlement conferences, industry conferences or meetings.• Provide excellent and professional customer service to insureds while maintaining a high level of production.• Maintain a constructive working relationship with brokers and agents.Qualifications• 4-7+ years of handling professional liability claims required.• College degree, JD preferred.• Excellent written and oral communication skills.• Work collaboratively and as team player willing to assist within the Professional Liability team as needed.• Ability to proactively self-manage a caseload.• Travel required as necessary (approximately 20%)
