REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF SECURITY

ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Description:

Under the direction of the Director of Safety and Security, School Climate Specialists are responsible for the overall safety and security of Bristol Public Schools facilities and grounds, for maintaining order, enforcing Bristol Public Schools policies and procedures, and understanding and identifying student behavioral issues and using appropriate techniques to resolve issues

Essential Functions:

Patrol and monitor interior and exterior of buildings to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff and visitors and to ensure the security of the facilityEstablish a visible and professional presence in school facilities and grounds to deter incidents and to detect situations requiring assistanceIdentify and understand student behavioral issues through comprehensive training and use appropriate techniques to resolve issuesProvide assistance to visitors and direct or escort them as neededPrevent unauthorized access to school property and buildings by providing a visible presence, ensuring access control measures are enforced, and providing diligent patrols of school property and facilitiesIdentify suspicious or unauthorized individuals to determine reasons for being on school property.Guide, escort or control individuals suspected of illegal or prohibited activityRespond to calls for assistance and emergency situations including but not limited to disruptive and or disorderly incidents, medical emergencies and fires in an attempt to protect life and property and restore and maintain orderUse de-escalation and behavioral management techniques to attempt to resolve issuesEncourage and ensure that all staff and visitors are displaying proper identification badges at all timesAssist staff and first responders in handling emergency or disruptive situationsWork closely with School Resource Officer and school staff to promote student responsibility for behavior and attitude by serving as a role model and providing positive interactions with studentsInvestigate and document incidents and accidentsAssist building administrators and central office staff with planning and carrying out required monthly crisis drillsOperate and monitor building CCTV systems to identify possible issues and investigate incidentsReport to building administrator or supervisor any condition or practices that interferes with the safety of students, staff or visitorsProvide traffic direction and control as requiredAttend training and meetings as requiredTake daily direction from school building administratorsTravel between sites for routine or emergency purposesBe available for voluntarily and forced overtime assignments as neededReport discipline matters, suspected physical, mental and/or substance abuse to proper authorities immediatelyMaintain the strictest confidence concerning personnel, students and operational concerns of the districtPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversationReport all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and proper school authority

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as a role model for students and staffInteract in a positive manner with staff, students and parentsRespond to questions and requests in an appropriate and timely mannerPerform other duties as assigned by Logistics and Safety Supervisor and/or Building Principal

Qualifications/Certificates:

High School DiplomaValid CT security Officer ID Card5 years related experiencePrevious law enforcement, corrections or military background preferredSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Bristol Board of Education may find appropriateCPR/First Aid/AEDNational Incident Management System (NIMS) within 6 months of appointment

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Prepare and present clear and concise reports in a timely mannerDemonstrate exceptional moral character and sound judgementOn-call availability for emergenciesKnowledge of local, state and federal laws, regulatory codes, and professional standards applicable to Bristol Public Schools

Required Testing:None

Evaluation :Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions set by the Bristol Board of Education

Salary: $25.00 per hour, 40 hours per week
