About the role:DUAL North America, Inc. is seeking a Director of Accounting to join the team. The Director of Accounting will oversee all accounting operations and deputize for the CFO as appropriate. This role involves maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing strategic insights to support the company's objectives. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of accounting principles, strong analytical skills, and experience within the property and casualty insurance industry.Location: Hybrid, Charlotte, NCEssential Functions:Financial Management:Oversee and manage the key corporate accounting cycle functions, including month-end close, A/P, payroll accounting, and general ledger maintenance.Oversee all operational accounting (Premium and Claims) cash receipts and disbursements (including management of A/Rand A/P), carrier reporting and billing, and Revenue Recognition.Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.Implement and manage expense controls measures.Team Leadership:Lead, develop/mentor, and manage the accounting team to ensure the attainment of department and individual goals.Evaluate the performance of the accounting team, providing feedback and training where necessary.Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment.Compliance and Risk Management:Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.Ensure compliance with carrier and producer agreements (e.g., commission, fees, reporting).Monitor and manage the company's insurance and risk management programs.Stay updated on insurance industry developments and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.Strategic Planning:Provide strategic recommendations to the CFO and members of the executive management team.Develop financial and tax strategies.Contribute to long-term planning in alignment with the company’s strategic plan.Operational Efficiency:Ensure appropriate financial systems, policies, procedures, and internal controls are in place and make improvements as needed to ensure efficient and accurate processing and reporting.Lead efforts toward standardization and optimization of processes and procedures, driving continuous improvement, while enhancing accuracy and efficiency of processes.Implement and maintain an effective internal control environment.Optimize accounting software and systems to improve efficiency.Job Requirements (education, experience, skills):Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; MBA or Master’s degree in a related field is a plus.CPA certification is required.Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.Experience in the insurance industry is strongly preferred. Familiarity with agency management systems or commission systems used in the insurance or financial services industry a plus.In-depth knowledge of GAAP and regulatory accounting practices.Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; strong proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly in Excel).Demonstrated experience with managing corporate and operational accounting, driving efficiencies.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.Strong leadership and team management abilities, including the ability to manage teams that span multiple geographies across the U.S..If you do not meet all the qualifications for this role, we still encourage you to apply, as we are always looking for diverse talent to join our growing team.What we offer:A career that you define.
