Job Description
SUMMARY
The Pediatric Hospitalist is accountable for delivering comprehensive quality patient care, including diagnostic and interventions according to standards of practice for children from birth through adolescence. The incumbent functions as a member of an inter-disciplinary team within an integrated academic model, with the potential for a clinical academic position.
Responsibilities
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assess, evaluate, diagnose and treat well newborns and pediatric observation patients and inpatients on the pediatric inpatient unit, as well as provide consultative services in the Emergency Department.
Work collaboratively with Primary Care Providers to ensure safe patient handoffs
Performs and/or orders clinically appropriate procedures for each patient.
Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results, clinical examinations and perform physical examinations in formulating a diagnosis, plan of care and documenting in conformity with applicable professional standards, third party payer requirements and the Division's policies and procedures.
Prescribes clinically appropriate medication and treatment for each patient.
Refers each patient to other physicians, including specialists and other health care providers, whenever the patient's condition as necessary.
Keeps and maintains accurate, complete, appropriate, timely and legible medical records relating to all professional services provided.
Uses and promotes evidence-based clinical practice.
Reviews on a regular basis long term cases that require ongoing medical attention.
Consults with Medical Director and other medical professionals as needed regarding patient care, assessment, and education issues.
Participates in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs established by the hospital.
Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model.
Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.
Participate in peer review, development and consultation.
Participate in special programs and services as assigned.
Academic/scholarly work and division citizenship as per division chief.
Participates in 24 HR Pediatric Hospitalist Call Coverage
Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
Assists in the resolution of complaints, requests and inquiries from patients.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct reports but may oversee Fellows, Residents, Medical Students and Advanced Practice Providers (APRNs & PAs).
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education Required: MD, DO degree
Experience Required:
Experience Preferred: 2 (two) years of Experience in a Pediatric Hospitalist setting preferred
LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
Board eligible or certified in Pediatrics and/or Pediatric Hospital Medicine
Licensed and registered, and in good standing under the laws of the State of Connecticut and New York
Active and Unrestricted D.E.A. Certificate
PALS, NRP certifications required ACLS, BLS preferred
