SUMMARY
Connecticut Children's, a nationally recognized, 187-bed not-for-profit children's hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, is seeking an Academic General Pediatrician to provide inpatient newborn care at its partner birthing hospital.The Newborn Hospitalist is accountable for delivering comprehensive quality patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions according to standards of practice to premature and term infants in the well baby nursery environment during initial hospitalization after birth. The hospitalist will lead an inpatient team including advanced practitioners and residents within an integrated academic model.
Responsibilities
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Treat and evaluate term and premature newborns ( >/=35 weeks) during the initial birth hospitalization and promote the health of the child and family.
Primary areas of care to include the Newborn nursery, Low Risk Delivery Room stabilization within Connecticut Children's partner hospital.
Respond to and/or supervise UCONN/CCMC residents and advanced practitioners in managing low risk newborn stabilizations in the Delivery Room as well as normal newborn and transitional care in the Well-Baby Nursery environment.
Care for transition babies requiring short term management with supplemental O2, dextrose fluids or antibiotics.
Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results and perform physical examinations.
Perform and maintain competence in required procedures for each site of care as assigned; this may include neonatal resuscitation, circumcision, venipuncture, IV placement. Arterial blood draw.
Make appropriate patient referrals and monitor outcomes.
Coordinate patient care with team members, other departments and community agencies and providers as necessary.
Partner with neonatology team to transfer care of infants requiring critical or intensive care in the NICU environment. .
Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.
Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model.
Precepting of medical students and residents: performing teaching rounds and didactic teaching.
Participate in special programs and services as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of needs of patients in appropriate, specific gestation populations and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CCMC STANDARDS.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise medical students, pediatric residents, advanced practice providers as part of a team model of care.
Qualifications
EDUATION & EXPERIENCE
BC/BE MD or DO pediatrician having completed accredited pediatric residency. New graduate will be considered on an individual basis. Bilingual and bicultural in English and Spanish a plus.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
Eligibility for CT medical license and CT Children's and partner hospitals credentialing process.
NRP provider certification to be maintained.
Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by department.
