Job Description / Essential Elements:
SPEECH THERAPIST
The Speech Therapist shall provide a speech and hearing therapy and language development program for students needing this service in grades ranging from kindergarten through the twelfth grades and 3-5 year olds as identified.
The Speech Therapist shall develop in each student within the program the communication skills that he/she is physically and mentally able to obtain, in order that he/she may function in our verbal society.
I.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
a.
Performs duties in accordance with District and State school policies and/or laws. b.
Identifies students with speech, hearing, and language disorders. c.
Evaluates individually all students identified as having speech problems or language development difficulties. d.
Provides a speech therapy program that will benefit the students needing this service with individual or group therapy. e.
Keeps a record of speech screening and record data. f.
Explains the purpose of the speech program to students, parents, teachers, and administrators. g.
The speech therapist will discuss with the staff of the schools where they are scheduled, the speech problems of the children and help strengthen the speech program through better understanding and communication. h.
Notifies teachers and administrators of potential enrollees and develop an efficient schedule to work with the enrolled students.
II.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
a.
Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records; may request resource speakers and field trips. b.
Communicates with parents and school personnel to discuss the individual pupil's progress. c.
Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. d.
Supervises pupil in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day. e.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a District level. f.
Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required. g.
Attends inservice and articulation meetings as required. h.
Performs other duties, such as, yard and bus duty as assigned by the school extra-duty roster. Therapists serving more than one school are excluded from extra duty. i.
Supervises co-curricular activities, such as, student supervision at athletic events, club sponsorships, and dance duties as assigned. j.
Assists in writing goals and performance objectives in his/her teaching assignments and relevant School District levels as directed.
