This is an opportunity to join an established clinical and scholarly division in the Department of Surgery. The candidate must possess competence in all areas of cardiothoracic surgery, and demonstrate an interest in undergraduate and residency training. Examples of Duties I. Administration 5%A. Provide expertise for trends in future development of cardiac surgery and implement new programs where appropriate for the mission of the School and affiliated hospitals.B. Assess manpower needs of the region for cardiothoracic surgeons and plan and develop appropriate educational programs to meet these needs including undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education.II. Teaching 25%A. Work with faculty to develop educational objectives, curriculum content and delivery, and assessment for undergraduate medical education in the area of cardiothoracic surgery.B. Assist in the planning and implementation, if needed, of a program in cardiothoracic surgery.C. Organize and conduct continuing education in cardiothoracic surgery.D. Represent cardiothoracic surgery in educational planning throughout the School.E. Serve on educational committees where appropriate within the School of Medicine.III. Research 15%A. Recommend areas and programs of research in cardiothoracic surgery appropriate to the needs of the faculty and mission of the Division.B. Provide an exemplary role model as an investigator for students, residents and faculty.C. Work to obtain intramural and/or extramural funds to support research in cardiothoracic surgery.IV. Service 55%A. Provide a role model for students and residents by maintaining a practice of high quality cardiothoracic surgery.B. Provide consultative and/or diagnostic service to house staff and other physicians.C. Participate in assigned Departmental, Medical School and Hospital committees.
