Position SummaryWill be part of a team training and guiding fourth year veterinary students, interns and residents as well as veterinary technician students on their path towards a professional career in veterinary medicine. As a member of the Ophthalmology service, you will be performing quality medicine at its highest levels and standards while running and maintaining advanced equipment associated with these procedures. Technicians in these positions are essential in the organization of the service and patient care assisting with examinations, specimen collection, diagnostic procedures, treatments, anesthesia and surgeries on small and large animals.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or CompetenciesWill work in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating excellent customer service, high degree of confidentiality, openness to teaching and providing consultation to a variety of stakeholders. Knowledge of general animal anatomy and ability to recognize signs of medical needs in a patient.
Physical Demands- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.- Sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day on hard floor surfaces.- Use of manual dexterity sufficient to accurately work with small, delicate pieces of equipment or large heavy objects/containers/machinery.- Wearing all protective gear including mask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles etc.- Working for long periods of time with arms extended.

Duties/ResponsibilitiesPatient care management and treatments. Collection of blood, urine by expression, cystocentesis or catheterization. Collection and preparation of tissue, cellular, or microbiological samples by skin scraping, impressions. Routine laboratory test procedures. Radiology including settings, positioning, processing, and safety. Intravenous and arterial catheterization. Administration and application of treatments, drugs, fluids, medications and immunological agents by oral, parenteral and injectable routes.

Duties/ResponsibilitiesPlacement of intra-nasal and intra-gastric tubes. Dental procedures, euthanasia, surgical assistance, resuscitative procedures. Application of splints and slings. Application of appropriate wound dressings and external supportive care in severe wound and burn cases. Caseloads will consist of various large and small animal species.
