Position Summary
The Department of Population Health, Food Animal Health and Management Program, College of Veterinary Medicine, at the University of Georgia invites applicants for a clinical or tenure track position at the assistant or associate professor level in food animal production and preventive medicine.
This position will be based at the UGA Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory (TVDIL) campus in Tifton, Georgia. Responsibilities include teaching veterinary students, providing food animal clinical services, scholarly activity, and outreach to livestock producers, as well as practicing veterinarians.
Although the focus of this position is beef cattle, this position may also serve dairy, small ruminant, and equine clients. An interest in advanced reproductive technology would be welcome, as there is equipment and a laboratory dedicated to embryo collection/transfer and on-site donor housing. There is a well-appointed haul-in facility for treating animals onsite. The service provided to clients closely models rural large animal practice in Georgia.
Rank, salary, and terms of appointment will be dependent upon qualifications and experience of the applicant.
Additional Requirements
Expertise and training in food animal production management or preventative medicine, and eligibility to obtain a veterinary license in the state of Georgia.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Masters or PhD in a veterinary medical biosciences related field preferred, especially those with an emphasis on livestock health and management and/or advanced reproductive technologies.
Board certification in any of the following AVMA recognized specialties is desirable: Internal Medicine (Large Animal); ABVP (Food Animal, Beef Cattle, or Dairy); Theriogenology; Toxicology; Nutrition; or Preventive Medicine.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

The successful candidate will teach veterinary students and postgraduate veterinarians and collaborate with faculty in production and clinical medicine.
Tifton serves as a site for an elective 3-week clinical rotation for senior veterinary students, who are housed in a dorm at the Tifton Campus.
The duties of this position focus primarily on building upon the teaching and service missions of the Food Animal Health and Management Program by working with existing faculty members to provide didactic and on-farm clinical experiences for veterinary students, as well as developing and contributing to continuing education for referring veterinarians and extension programs for producers in the livestock industry.
Clinical services may be provided either on farm or through the brand new and state-of-the-art livestock haul-in facility on the campus of the TVDIL to allow a wider array of health services to rural producers. Current caseload is approximately 50% cattle, 40% equine, and 10% small ruminants and swine. Services offered include routine herd health, reproductive services, and individual animal evaluations.
The facility is designed to facilitate the offering of specialized reproductive management services for large and small ruminants (embryo transfer, in vitro fertilization, laparoscopic artificial insemination, etc.), bovine foot care and lameness evaluation, and routine clinical services (breeding soundness examinations, dehorning, clinical examination, etc.) as well as surgical procedures.
This position will also work closely with TVDIL faculty to assist with client services and outreach at the TVDIL and provide consultations on non-poultry food animal submissions.
