Summary

Job Summary:

A registered pharmacy technician is someone other than a licensed pharmacist or pharmacy intern that performs pharmacy tasks and duties as delegated by a licensed pharmacist that do not fall within the purview of Florida Statue 465.003(13). All such delegated acts will be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist who is responsible for all such acts performed by persons under his or her supervision as outlined in Florida Statue 465.014. These supervised tasks and duties include but are not limited to: initiating or receiving communications with patient, provider, and/or team members to facilitate patient care for: refill authorization requests, assisting in patient appointment review, medical records review, insurance authorization review, processing of prescriptions, including investigational medications utilized in clinical trials in compliance with policies and procedures set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and/or medications associated with Risk Evaluation Mitigation Strategies (REMS). The Registered Pharmacy technician may also assist with compounding, preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical and investigational medications following USP standards and hospital policy, inventory stewardship, maintains records and creates reports required by law, and processing of documents required by the hospital.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED Must have graduated from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program or have experience that qualifies them for licensure as outlined in Florida Statutes, Section 465.014

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT)

Minimum Required:

2 years of experience (or 1 year at Moffitt) as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) of the following; unit dose, pharmacy orders and inventory computer systems, investigational or REMS medication management, pharmacy automation software systems, equipment and electronic health records (EHR) systems, preparation of sterile intraveneous medications which may include hazardous and/ or investigational medications used for the treatment of cancer with competent understanding of current USP clean room practices and GCP guidelines and/ or inventory management of investigational/ controlled/specialty medications.
