Job Description / Essential Elements:

DUTIES: Drives a bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules; picks up and discharges school children; escorts children across streets when necessary; stops traffic as necessary; transports children and teachers on field trips to various locations following designated routes and making departure and arrival times as scheduled; maintains adequate discipline and safety while on the bus following district policies and procedures; assists in maintaining the bus and other motor equipment in clean and safe operating condition; inspects the bus daily to ensure it is in safe operating condition, including checking lights, brakes, oil, water and gas as per California Vehicle Code; maintains positive courteous and professional contact with students, staff and parents; works cooperatively with others; and performs related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or equivalent; at least six months experience as a bus driver, or one year experience as a truck driver; knowledge of provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code; knowledge of safe-driving practices; possession of valid California Class B drivers license with a "P" passenger endorsement; a valid California School Bus Driver Certificate; a valid Medical Examination Certificate; a valid First Aid Certificate; ability to drive a school bus and other automotive equipment in a safe and efficient manner; ability to follow oral and written instructions and must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
