Counsel - McKesson Medical Surgical (MMS)Location: Richmond, Virginia; Jacksonville, Florida or Dallas, Texas (Required)Experience: 3+ yearsHybrid/Remote/Onsite: Hybrid roleCurrent NeedThe attorney hired to fill this Counsel role must be an independent, business-minded, healthcare-focused, transactional, and regulatory attorney who will serve as a highly visible point of contact for a wide array of legal and business matters.Position DescriptionCounsel will, under the direction and oversight of a supervising attorney, serve as the primary point of contact for commercial agreements and legal questions for assigned business segments. This position will engage in a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to those calling for judgment, risk assessment, and independent initiative. This position will focus on necessary agreements for McKesson Medical-Surgical’s Primary Care customer business. Counsel will frequently engage with other internal legal, compliance, and business stakeholders across functional groups, as well as specialized outside counsel. Counsel will work with members of the General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) and the related business segment to provide support drafting, reviewing, analyzing, and negotiating contracts with escalation to the supervising attorney as necessary. Agreement types may include, without limitation, customer product supply agreements and discount and rebate agreements, and matters could range from contractual to dispute resolution. This role requires the ability to work independently and assess when to seek guidance of supervising attorneys. Reporting to the Managing Lead Counsel and working directly with the business team, Counsel must possess exceptional professional judgment and be able to provide decisive day-to-day legal counseling and advice to all levels of the organization.Key ResponsibilitiesDraft, revise, and negotiate a wide variety and high volume of commercial distribution agreements in a timely manner.Assist supervising attorney in providing timely legal services to internal clients on various types of legal issues.Provide training to internal clients on contracting process and various legal issues and regulations that are pertinent to the assigned business segments.Develop solid working relationships with key business team members and internal clients.Serve as primary point of contact for assigned business segments.Identify and escalate complex issues and risks, current and potential, to lead attorney for direction and/or handling.Develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with McKesson’s businesses, its people, products, markets, strategy, and customers.Work collaboratively with internal subject matter experts to meet McKesson’s objectives and complete projects and agreements in a timely manner.Additional responsibilities as assigned.Minimum Requirements2+ years of relevant legal experience in a corporate legal department or law firm providing legal counsel, drafting/revising contracts, and negotiating.Critical SkillsExcellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a heavy and multi-directional workload.Ability to adapt communication style depending on the recipient’s level of sophistication about legal issueComfortable working on multiple projects concurrentlyExcellent commercial contract drafting and negotiation skillsHigh degree of proficiency redlining documents in Microsoft Word and familiarity with Microsoft Excel and TeamsSolutions oriented and able to identify potential process efficiencies.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to operate independently with limited supervisor/attorney supervision.Capable of maintaining effective working relationships and quality legal services in a demanding and diverse environment.Team-oriented and able to communicate effectively with superiors, peers, and others.Strategic, innovative and creative mindset.Additional Knowledge & SkillsExperience with health care regulatory matters related to commercial arrangements with healthcare customers is preferred.EducationJuris Doctorate and bar licensure in at least one state is requiredMust be authorized to work in the US.
