Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) and the Department of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) seek to recruit an internationally recognized physician leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Nephrology.

Best Children’s Hospital List. For over five decades, the Division of Nephrology has been a pioneer in providing expert, specialized care for children with advanced kidney diseases. The Division Chief will lead one of the largest and most successful pediatric nephrology programs in the nation.

The Division Chief reports to the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and works closely with the other Division Chiefs. CHLA has been affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine of USC since 1932 and the position includes an academic appointment through USC Keck SOM at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, appropriate to training and experience. Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD or comparable degree and outstanding qualifications in clinical care, education, and research. Applicants must be board-certified in Pediatrics with subspecialty certification in Nephrology.

The Division Chief will oversee the clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division, lead recruiting efforts, and ensure career mentoring for Division faculty and fellows. The Division of Nephrology is currently comprised of 7 faculty, 2 fellows, and over 45 staff members including nurse practitioners, registered nurses, dieticians, social workers, technicians, and administrative personnel. The Division treats children with a wide range of kidney disorders, including acute renal failure, end stage renal disease, hypertension, nephrotic syndrome, urinary tract infection, and other acquired diseases and injuries from infancy through adolescence and young adulthood.

The Division leads comprehensive clinical programs including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation. The Division sees approximately 1,000 new patients per year, cares for 50-60 dialysis patients, and performs 25-30 kidney transplants yearly. The Division pioneers new tools, treatments and lifestyle-changing clinical programs and is at the forefront of regional, national and international research efforts to bring about healthier lives for children with conditions that affect renal function. There is strong philanthropic support of research through The Gabriel’s Organization Funding All Renal Research (GOFARR) which has raised more than $10 million since its inception. Faculty educational responsibilities include teaching pediatric residents, medical students, fellows and nurses, and allied health workers.

The annual base salary range for this position is $219,415-$424,648.
