PRN - (As Needed) - DaysWorks in collaboration with the direct nursing staff and providers to assist the patient in achieving a satisfactory start to successful breastfeeding, including implementing short and long-range breastfeeding goals.Re-evaluates the breastfeeding plan of care for Mother and BabyAssesses the complete physical, emotional and social state of the motherMonitors normal weight gain in the breast fed infantDiscusses normal growth and developmental milestones in the infantDiscusses treatment modalities and comfort measures for common breastfeeding problemsIBCLC provides support as directed by RNMonitors the use of short-term supplementation including bottle feeding, feeding tube device (FTD), cup feeding and syringe feedingProvides mothers with hospital grade breast pumps from the rental station and educates on useProvide mothers with a plan of care for breastfeeding and returning to workCollaborates with providers on the breastfeeding plan of care for both Mother and BabyOffers phone triage and counselingFacilitates breastfeeding classes to prospective parentsFamiliar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular fieldRelies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goalsRegular and predictable attendance is an essential job functionPerforms other related duties as assignedCompetent to meet age specific needs of the unit assignedPRN (As Needed) - Day ShiftRequirements and Minimum Qualifications:High school or equivalent preferredInternational Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification requiredMinimum 1-year experience as Lactation Consultant in acute care or outpatient setting requiredBLS requiredWorking Conditions:Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbsMust be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting positionTypical equipment used in a clinical jobFrequent stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing heavy stretchers and other equipmentFrequent moving, transferring and positioning of patients with and/or without assistanceAbout Kootenai HealthKootenai Health is a highly esteemed health care organization, serving patients throughout northern Idaho and the Inland Northwest.
