As General Counsel, you will provide a wide range of support to The Challenger Group Inc., assuring that the company is legally compliant with local, state & federal laws. You will identify, report & resolve potential reputational or legal risks including lawsuits or violations of the law. Assists with improving business processes & facilitating transactions to implement the company’s strategy.Essential Functions:Develops and maintains a strong relationship with personnel and staff to serve as a trusted resource for legal issues that arise.Identifies, reports, and resolves risks to steer clear of any substantive lawsuits.Monitors implementation of safety and compliance programs to prevent OSHA violations.Advises executive members on new laws, existing laws, and legal rights that would impact the functionality of the business.Renders counsel to the board of directors and leadership team to improve decision-making.Reviews, negotiates and prepares contracts and legal documents on behalf of the company.Provides guidance with the hire, review, censure or termination of employees & trade partners.Drafts and negotiates agreements on behalf of the company.Prepares legal agreements for the company.Deals with external parties such as regulators and external counsel.Negotiates and manages client and vendor contracts.Ensures legal compliance regarding mergers and acquisitions.Facilitates filings of licensing forms and other statutory requirements.Other Duties/Responsibilities:Provides advice on indemnity clauses, guarantees, and other provisions, reviews insurance and indemnity requirements in contracts.Performs proper documentation for each legal transaction such as signed agreements for all trade partners, documents PA for each transaction, and notes thoroughly prepared for intercompany loans.Maintains knowledge of the company's legal documents and operations.Keeps a record of all legal documents and proceedings for the company.Accesses company staff and personnel records as needed.Maintains confidentiality.Fulfills a wide variety of duties and responsibilities that support every department.Minimum Required Education/Credentials/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Education:Bachelor’s degree in business, psychology, accounting, or another related field.Juris Doctor (J.D. degree) from an accredited law school; strong academic record.Experience:Must be Licensed to practice law in the state of Colorado.5-7 years of active experience as a RE General Counsel.7 or more years of relevant legal experience in partnerships, home building and/or corporate matters.Effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong leadership skills.Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.Preferred Education/Credentials/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:In-house legal experience is preferred, but not required.Experience in providing legal counsel to home builders preferred.Key Personal Traits:Embraces and is the embodiment of the company’s mission, vision, culture, and values.Treats all he or she encounters with respect and dignity, creating an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, and effective/transparent communication.Exercises integrity, fairness, and honesty.Demands excellence from self, striving always to grow, learn and develop as a human being.
