Schedule Information:
Per course schedule; maintains a minimum of 15 contact hours of teaching and 6 office hours per week for student consultation; evening and weekend instruction may be required. Serves on college committees; participates in departmental and division initiatives.
Weeks per fiscal year:
Faculty are covered under a 9-month contract period (August thru May). This position requires an additional commitment in the Summer from May thru August. Additional compensation will be awarded for this time period. This position may include some evening and weekend work.

Position Description and Duties:
In response to the growing need for Respiratory Care professionals, Harper College has made the commitment to create and offer a new Respiratory Care degree. The new Respiratory Care Program is housed in a newly renovated lab within the Health Careers Division. The Respiratory Care laboratory features state of the art equipment for teaching and learning.
Harper College is seeking applications for the Full Time Tenure Track Respiratory Care Faculty/Coordinator. This position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to develop and lead a new program. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the newly created Respiratory Care program including; the administration and fiscal management of the program, program planning and development, ongoing review and analysis of all program activities, faculty teaching assignments and workload, ensuring the program meets the requirements for accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), and working in conjunction with the Clinical Education Coordinator coordinating didactic and laboratory activities which are sufficient to meet program outcomes required by CoARC standards.
Responsibilities include:Develop the Respiratory Care curriculum, collaborate in the development of the laboratory space, equipment purchases, and ensure the program meets the standards set by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).Maintain program accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).Conducts program, course and student outcomes assessment.In conjunction with faculty and Limited Enrollment Specialists determines admission of students into the program.Supports and advises students on admission and continuation in the program.Teaching a minimum of 30-credit hours per academic year; utilizing the Harper College Faculty Contract in determining reassigned time for Program Coordination and responsibilities.Establishes and maintains relationships with the Respiratory Care advisory committee who provides guidance for the Respiratory Care Program.Establishes and maintains relationships with cooperating agencies and clinical partners.Develops policies and procedures for the program.Is an active participant in Program, Division, and College committees.Represents the Program, Division and College to communities of interest through engagement and resource development.
Educational Requirements:Baccalaureate degree from an academic institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required. A master's degree from an academic institution accredited by an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is preferred.
Experience Requirements:Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.Current state license. (If not an Illinois license, the ability to obtain an IL license within the first three months.)Minimum of four years' experience as a RRT of which at least two years include clinical respiratory care.Minimum of two years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
