Job Summary:
The primary purpose of your job position is to assist the Director of Nursing in the planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of our Nursing Service Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Nursing Services Department in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility as directed by the Director of Nursing, or in the absence of the Director of Nursing, and as appointed by Administration.
Responsible for scheduling of nursing personnel and determining the staffing needs of the Nursing Services Department.
Participate in the development and implementation of performance evaluation for the Nursing Services Department.
Monitor and participate in disciplinary actions within the nursing department.
Recommend to the Director of Nursing the equipment and supply needs of the department.
Participate in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive assessments of each resident that identifies the problems/needs of the resident, indicates the care to be given, goals to be accomplished, and which professional service is responsible for each element of care.
Provide the Director of Nursing with information relative to the nursing needs of the resident and the Nursing Services Department’s ability to meet those needs.
Assist the In-Service Coordinator in the development, planning and conducting of in-service training classes that provides instructions on “how to do the job,” and ensures a well-educated Nursing Services Department.
Assist the Director of Nursing in monitoring nursing service personnel to assure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
Assess resident accident reports with the Resident Care Coordinators.
Monitor nursing care to assure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity, respect, and to maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
Complete job duties and reports on computer as required for your position.
Qualifications
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when
circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, personnel, and the general public.
Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, state and federal regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
Must notify your supervisor in writing at least one month in advance prior to resigning your position at GSH.
Must have, as a minimum, two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility.
Possess experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices or be willing to gain the experience within one year of employment if directed by Director of Nursing Services.
Knowledge of IDPH regulations, MDS, and Medicare are preferred
