Department Description

The primary purpose of the UC Davis Rehabilitation Hospital is to provide a full range of rehabilitation services designed to restore patients to their optimal functional capacity. This position would provide direct patient care in the UC Davis Rehabilitation Hospital.

Responsibilities The Speech Pathologist shall function under the Chief Speech Pathologist to provide evaluative, diagnostic, and treatment procedures for pediatric though geriatric patients for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department. This position requires a depth of theoretic and applied knowledge for diagnosing and treating patients with augmentative communication needs, developmental speech, and language disorders, acquired cognitive and language disorders, fluency, voice, dysphagia, aphasia, apraxia, and dysarthria. This position functions autonomously, providing teaching and consultation with other departments, physician, and therapy specialists within UCDMC, educational specialists as well as other community agencies/service providers. This role requires coordination with primary care/service providers and management of insurance authorizations.

California Licensed Speech Pathologist Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA Must be licensed through the Speech Pathology Examining Committee and Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech, Language and Hearing Associate once hired Must possess a master's degree in Speech Pathology California Licensed Speech Pathologist Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA Must be licensed through the Speech Pathology Examining Committee and Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech, Language and Hearing Associate once hired Knowledge of current therapeutic and evaluative instruments Thorough knowledge of appropriate assessment instruments, test administration procedures, scoring, and interpretation Ability to extract pertinent information to relate to family members, be empathetic and supportive Knowledge of how patients should be responding to treatment, average length of stay in treatment, recognition of appropriate versus inappropriate treatment for each patient Ability to establish programs based on testing results appropriate for each patient Ability to recognize need for program modification Ability to extract pertinent behaviors and incorporate these into daily written progress notes Knowledge of various home programs and organization into individual programs for family implementation Ability to report to referring physician regarding patient diagnosis, skills and prognosis using appropriate terminology and information Ability to maintain patient records and process necessary billing forms and treatment authorizations in prompt, accurate manner Ability to maintain accurate schedule and personal workload accounts Ability to follow verbal and written instructions given by section chief, including attendance at weekly meetings Ability to assume responsibility for other therapists' patients on short notice Ability to communicate effectively with other therapists Ability to provide instruction and supervision, as required, for student interns and medical students Knowledge of community resources
