Position Details

The product matching team is hiring for a full stack engineer to help build out a new web based workstation. The workstation will be a key tool used to support mission critical teams across Grainger’s business. The work will require collaboration with other full stack engineers, data engineers and machine learning engineers. We are expecting around 40/60 split between front end/back end work for this position.

You will report to the Senior Manager, Product Engineering.

You Will

Dive into different layers of our technology stack to build out workstation using technologies like:ReactNext.jsExpressReduxTypeScriptJestDockerKubernetesSpring bootPostgreSQLRedisData BricksAWS cloud services (S3, EKS, ect)Collaboratively build the front and back-end components of the systemsSupport the systems you build as part of our on-call rotationBe open to pair programming and continuously experimenting with ways of working to improveDevelop functionality with speed at high qualityHelp lead team in delivering high-quality, maintainable software with a focus on using product engineering sensible defaults to enable continuous deliveryContribute to continuous learning on your team culture by leading technical knowledge sharing sessions with latest technological features and engineering practicesBuild products that delight our users and have empathy for the problems they are trying to solveMaintain software in production with demonstrated ability to triage and quickly resolve issues

You Have

An interest in data and AI algorithms5 years of experience building mission critical systems as a full stack engineer.A deep understanding of REST and HTTP and how to build robust APIs.Understanding of distributed system design and experience building production grade distributed systems.Understanding of producer/consumer design patterns and messaging frameworks like KafkaBuilt software that runs in the cloud, such as AWS or Google cloud and understand cloud native design patterns.Some experience with CI/CD pipelines and have opinions on what makes a good pipelineExperience with production support and observabilityA belief that quality is everyone’s responsibility and hold opinions on how to validate and harden software systems.Automated testingInversifyJS experience is a plusSOLR or search engine experience a plusHave an ownership mindset. Our team members are expected to work through or around obstacles and drive a task to completion.
