Children’s Musical Theatre Director

for ages 6-14 for our school in

Andover, MA . This is a year round position with part-time hours September-June and full-time hours for our Summer programs in July & August.**This position will begin training in late June to begin Summer hours starting July 8th.**ABOUT REAL SCHOOL

The Andover Musical Theatre Director is responsible for coordinating all of the children’s musical theatre productions in Andover. Real School believes everyone should have the opportunity to experience music in new ways, so our Musical Theatre program is perfect for newcomers and repeat musical theatre students alike. The Musical Theatre Director will focus on teaching the art of theatre performance and building a show from the ground up while encouraging growth within the Real School community.While our Marketing Department supports each production in promoting shows for enrollment, the Musical Theatre Director is responsible for additional recruiting, making student/family connections within the school, and responding to interested families to boost enrollment.During the Academic Year (September-June) , the Musical Theatre Director will work

part-time

to produce between 2-6 productions based on scheduling of once or twice weekly rehearsals during afterschool hours. You can expect to work roughly 6 hours per week including prep time and rehearsals with up to 20 hours during the week of performances (tech week). You can learn more about the format of our Academic Year productions on our website. Many of our Musical Theatre Directors also teach lessons to our students throughout the year.During the Summer months (July & August) , the Musical Theatre Director will work

full-time

to produce 3 two-week productions as part of our RealJams Academy Summer Programming. These programs are Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm with opportunities for students to enjoy workshops such as costuming, character development, set building, stage makeup, theatre games and more. You can learn more about the format our Summer productions and our scheduled shows for this Summer on our website.RESPONSIBILITIES

Research and propose appropriate show choices and scheduling for maximum enrollmentCreate a welcoming, supportive, and fun environment for students of all ages and experience levels (there are no cuts in our programs)Coordinate auditions, rehearsals, tech week, and performances for casts of up to 35 students in a way that nurtures student growth and parent involvementProvide consistent and clear communication with cast and families regarding scheduling, ticketing, progress updates, etc.Oversee a team of 1-2 interns and/or staff members to distribute production tasks/responsibilities across all members of the musical theatre teamWork within a predetermined budget and tracking expenses for costumes, props, intern/staff hours, and other elementsCollaborate with other Real School Musical Theatre Directors, the Musical Theatre Account Manager, our Front Desk teams, and Central Team staff with timely communicationCarry out Real School’s mission, policies, and program guidelines/expectations pertaining to students and staffManage expectations of parents, students, and staff to maintain a positive rehearsal environment with the ability to problem solve or deescalate situations as neededEncourage student involvement in private lessons or other Real School programs as a benefit for student growthFor Summer Programs, plan out a schedule of activities beyond rehearsals for a more immersive musical theatre experienceBENEFITS

1+ years of relevant experience in musical theatrePrevious experience working with young children, ideally in a theatrical setting, with the ability to corral group sizes up to 35 with helpStrong organizational and time management skillsExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressureEffective communication and interpersonal skillsFlexibility in working with different experience levels, learning styles, age groupsValid driver’s license with reliable vehiclePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a related fieldName
