Director of Nursing (DON)

JOB SUMMARY:The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the planning, organization, direction, supervision, and evaluation of all nursing services provided in the facility. Ensures nursing department compliance with regulations and implementation of Villa nursing core programs. Manages the Nursing Service department within budget. Follows all Villa policies and procedures and JACHO standards. Advises medical staff, department heads, and Administrator on nursing service matters.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Reviews daily work assignments for regulatory compliance and consistent staffing.Directs employees' work and schedules breaks.Prepares evaluations of employees and enforces facility policies.Participates in the interview process and training programs.Plans, organizes, directs, supervises, and evaluates nursing services to achieve desired outcomes.Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and Villa Healthcare standards.Manages the nursing department budget and provides budgetary planning information.Completes rounds to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.Collaborates with the Administrator in staff development programs.Coordinates various facility functions and represents the facility professionally.Ensures customer service standards are upheld and resolves patient/family complaints.Complies with laws, regulations, and Corporate Compliance Program.Participates in training, committees, and meetings as scheduled.On call for nursing emergencies and oversees various nursing programs.Ensures Abuse & Neglect policies are enforced and maintains resident rights.REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:Financial and management skills.Adaptability to flexible schedules and occasional travel.Positive communication with various audiences.Management skills including delegation and conflict resolution.Proficiency in English, basic computer knowledge, and ability to learn software.Health requirements compliance.Up to 10% travel.EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.Current RN license.Minimum three years of previous DON experience preferred.ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Various physical requirements with limited exposure to hazards. Adherence to safety standards required.
