JOB SUMMARY:The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the planning, organization, direction, supervision, and evaluation of all nursing services provided in the facility. Ensures nursing department compliance with regulations and implementation of Villa nursing core programs. Manages the Nursing Service department within budget. Follows Villa policies, procedures, and JACHO standards. Advises medical staff, department heads, and Administrator on nursing service matters. Assumes facility responsibility in the Administrator's absence.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Reviews daily work assignments for regulatory compliance and staffing consistency.Directs employee work.Schedules breaks following facility protocol.Authorizes early departures and overtime.Reassigns employees based on facility needs.Prepares evaluations of assigned employees.Enforces facility policies, issuing Disciplinary Action Reports as necessary.Suspends employees for rule violations.Participates in applicant interviews.Handles employee complaints.Participates in training and new staff orientation.Plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates nursing services for desired outcomes.Ensures regulatory compliance and Villa Healthcare standards.Develops facility nursing care philosophy and objectives.Participates in new admissions selection and resident care planning.Manages nursing department budget and provides planning information to the Administrator.Completes facility rounds daily for policy compliance.Collaborates on staff development programs with the Administrator.Ensures timely RAI/IPOC processes for residents.Recruits, trains, supervises, and handles personnel issues in the nursing department.Maintains licensure status for nursing employees.Works on quality improvement and infection control functions.Represents the facility professionally in various activities.Participates in marketing planning and activities.Ensures customer service standards are met in the nursing department.Handles patient/family complaints regarding nursing care.Complies with laws, regulations, and Corporate Compliance Program.Participates in training, PI committees, and meetings as directed.On-call for nursing emergencies and designates qualified staff when unavailable.Oversees records, nursing programs, safety, and other essential care aspects.Performs other duties as assigned.REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:Financial and management skills.Adaptability to flexible schedules and occasional travel.Positive communication with diverse audiences.Interest in working with care residents and the elderly.Effective delegation and management skills.Proficiency in English, basic computer knowledge, and learning new applications.Health requirements compliance.Up to 10% travel.EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.Current RN license.Minimum three years of previous DON experience preferred.ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Various physical requirements with or without mechanical aid.
