It is located on the east coast of Virginia in the picturesque Hampton Roads area that includes the cities of Hampton, Norfolk, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Newport News.Description of the SchoolHampton University School of Pharmacy invite applications for Assistant or Associate Professor in Medicinal Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Sciences faculty position in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy.In 2023, Hampton University School of Pharmacy established a new Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree program that achieved approval of Pre-Candidate Status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in January 2024. The School of Pharmacy will matriculate its first cohort of students seeking the new PharmD degree in Fall 2024. The school currently offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, along with minors in Pharmaceutical Science, Environmental Health Science, and Public Health.Mission of the Hampton University School of PharmacyOur mission is to produce a cadre of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists who have a keen awareness and understanding of the health inequities encountered by underserved and vulnerable populations. Our vision is to be a leader in pharmacy education, scientific discovery, and scholarship that prepares graduates to address the healthcare needs of medically underserved and diverse populations.Job DescriptionThe School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Pharmacology or Biomedical Sciences. The successful applicant should be able to teach Pharmacology or in one or more fields of Biomedical Sciences (Pathophysiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Biochemistry, Toxicology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Genomics and/or Medical Microbiology). The successful candidate is expected to serve on college/ university/ professional committees in compliance with the duties and responsibilities associated with being a Hampton University faculty member.Teaching responsibilities will include providing academic instruction in the topics of Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Molecular Biology or Genomics to undergraduate and Doctor of Pharmacy students. Possible assignments include, but are not limited to, coordination and lecturing in Pharmacology, Anatomy & Physiology, Genomics, Biochemistry, Pharmacotherapy or Biotechnology/Research Methods lab courses within the Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Science Pharmaceutical Sciences curricula.Job QualificationsThe successful candidate must have the following qualificationsPhD in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or related disciplinesPost-graduate experience (post-doctoral training, advanced training or industry experience) in one of the above-mentioned areas of Pharmacology or Biomedical Sciences.Willingness to work in a diverse academic environment as well as teach and mentor students from diverse backgroundsCommitment to diversity, equity and inclusionEnglish proficiency, good communication and well-developed interpersonal skillsPreferred QualificationsThree years of teaching experience at the undergraduate, graduate and/or Doctor of Pharmacy levelEvidence of scholarly activity and/or extramural supported independent research in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Genetics, Bioinformatics or Cellular BiologyResearch interests in Cancer, Neuroscience, Infectious Diseases, Cardio-Pulmonary, Endocrine or Environmental Health-related DisordersApplication ProcessThe search committee will review applications until the positionApplication should include:Statement of Interest in the Position (Cover letter)Curriculum Vitae with evidence of teaching and scholarly activityStatement of Teaching Philosophy and Teaching innovationsStatement of Research Interests and PlansOfficial Undergraduate and Graduate TranscriptThree letters of recommendation (on official letterhead)Marilyn D.
