The President of UNC Faculty Physicians plays a critical role in bridging UNC Health's clinical excellence and UNC School of Medicine's academic excellence, ensuring a seamless integration of these pivotal areas. Reporting to UNC Health’s Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) and the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), this position highlights the dual focus on enhancing patient care and advancing the academic mission.Reporting to the Chief Clinical Officer, the FP President will be responsible for:Oversight of Clinical Operations: The President ensures that all UNC Faculty Physicians clinical operations are conducted effectively and efficiently, delivering high-quality patient care and maintaining UNC Faculty Physicians reputation as a nationally leading academic practice. The President oversees and is responsible for the clinical performance of the Faculty Practice and the clinical operations of associated departments. This includes performance in quality, productivity, patient and faculty satisfaction, and other key clinical metrics.Advancement of Clinical Integration: Through strategic collaborations with other UNC Health entity leaders, the President leads the integration efforts of the Faculty Practice across UNC Physicians and all UNC Health hospitals, especially the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. The President must support and champion the growth of system service lines to foster the delivery of integrated care. They will act as a key facilitator between the system service line chiefs and the clinical department chairs, ensuring alignment and collaboration to achieve integrated and cohesive patient care across the organization.Collaboration across UNC Health: Essential to this role is building robust relationships with other key leaders across UNC Health to ensure operations are closely aligned with broader system goals.Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer, the FP President will be responsible for:Key role in leading the Clinical Chairs: The UNC School of Medicine Clinical Department Chairs have a dotted line reporting relationship to the President of UNC Faculty Physicians. In addition to the clinical performance of the Faculty Practice and departments, the President is engaged in leadership of the chairs, including participation in recruitment, annual reviews, guiding clinical chairs in aligning their departmental strategies with broader academic priorities, and fostering a collaborative environment that bridges clinical and academic functions.Supporting the Academic Environment: The President is committed to enhancing the academic environment, actively promoting, and supporting the research and educational activities of the academic faculty. This includes ensuring that clinical practices align with and support academic objectives, thus enhancing research opportunities and educational outcomes.Facilitating Academic Integration: Working in close partnership with the CAO, the President ensures that the clinical and academic missions are integrated and mutually reinforcing, leveraging faculty innovations in clinical practice and patient care.Academic and Leadership Roles: As a member of the Academic Council, the President leads the Chairs' Committee, ensuring meetings are well-organized and effectively facilitated to support broader institutional goals and provide robust support for department chairs. The President collaborates with the Academic Council and Chief Academic Officer to plan and implement meeting agendas that span academic and clinical topics, uniting chairs as a cohesive team across all three missions. Additionally, the President works with stakeholders to determine appropriate UNC Faculty Physicians’ governance committees that encompass both the School of Medicine (SOM) and UNC Health.Job DutiesOperations:Responsible for the overall strategic direction and operational activities of UNC Faculty Physicians, ensuring that both strategy and operations align with system efforts.Partners with the President of UNC Hospitals to facilitate a strong collaborative approach to all aspects of patient care, hospital efficiency, market strategy, and workforce engagement.Partners with research and operational leaders for the advancement of clinical trials.Responsible for the cascade and effective implementation of the UNC Faculty Physicians’ system-driven organizational goals, objectives, plans, and policies to clinical department chairs, faculty, and staff.Ensures that policies are uniformly understood, properly interpreted, and administered.Establishes UNC Faculty Physicians operating policies and ensures they are consistent with the UNC Health policies.Drives operational implementation of region strategy based on system-wide strategy and priorities.Owns and manages the P&L for UNC Faculty Physicians and is accountable to the UNC Health Chief Financial Officer for meeting operating margin targets and other financial metrics.

Uses system and cost-benefit thinking to set priorities, monitors expenditures in support of programs and policies, and identifies cost-effective approaches.Other information:Education Requirements:MD or DO degree required from an accredited institution Board certified in appropriate disciplineLicensure/Certification Requirements:Active and current state medical license without encumbrances.Professional Experience Requirements:Requires 12 years of progressively responsible experience within a hospital or large healthcare system, including 10 years of experience in people managementKnowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:Deep understanding of complex healthcare systems, regulatory environments, billing/coding practices, insurance, and reimbursement models.Expertise in the challenges and opportunities of managing a large physician group, including compensation structures, recruitment, physician relations, and productivity.Exceptional interpersonal skills to foster strong relationships with physicians, UNC Health administrative leaders, the UNC-CH leaders, and external stakeholders.Capacity to lead transformation and organizational change effectively, navigating potential resistance and fostering buy-in.Ability to see interconnections within the system and identify how decisions impact various stakeholders and processes.Utilize data and analytics to inform compliance strategies and optimize program effectiveness.
