Director, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting

The Director of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting is responsible for analysis of technical accounting topics and financial reporting within the Finance department, with topics including, but not limited to revenue recognition, business combinations, cash flows, debt modifications, VIE analysis, external and internal reporting, and strategic initiative. Responsibilities include reporting in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements, technical accounting research and memos, financial statement footnotes, and documentation and implementation of new accounting standards. This position works closely with the Vice President, Controller.This role is best suited to someone who has a strong knowledge of GAAP with financial reporting experience, considers themselves a critical thinker or problem solver, who communicates effectively and demonstrates curiosity, and initiative. Ryan’s Financial and Human Capital platform is Workday.Why Ryan?Hybrid and remote work optionsAward-winning cultureGenerous personal time off (PTO) benefits14 weeks of 100% paid leave for new parents (adoption included)Monthly gym membership reimbursement OR gym equipment reimbursementBenefits eligibility effective day one401K with employer matchTuition reimbursement after one year of serviceFertility assistance programFour-week company-paid sabbatical eligibility after five years of serviceDuties and responsibilities, as they align to Ryan’s Key ResultsPeople:Creates a positive team experience.Collaborates with various teams to understand and document technical accounting topics.Work closely with the business, Corporate Development team and various members of the Global Finance team in performing complex accounting analyses and report to senior leaders.Mentor and coach team members to further develop competencies.Client:Partners with internal and external auditors on the adoption of new accounting standards, footnote disclosures, and technical memos.Interfaces with Executives and Principals on a variety of issues including contracts, revenues, expenses, business combinations, and other technical accounting matters.Value:Maintains a strong working knowledge of GAAP.Aids in the preparation and review of external and internal financial reports.Assists in and manage US, statutory, and other regulatory audits as required (including in foreign countries).Supports the mergers and acquisitions cycle, from pre-deal due diligence through integration and business combination accounting / purchase accounting.Assists in monitoring compliance with revenue recognition policies to ensure compliance with GAAP when applicable.Key contributor, integral in accounting for new acquisitions.Challenges the "status quo" and lead process improvement to streamline processes.Research, document, and operational technical accounting matters.Assists with other projects as needed and other assigned duties.Education/Experience:Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) or equivalent with at least ten years Accounting and Management experience. Public company and Sarbanes-Oxley experience preferred.Other experience includes:Overall understanding and experience in application of US GAAP and SEC financial reporting requirements including financial statements and financial statements footnotes.Knowledge of accounting across multiple currencies and jurisdictions.Experience preparing global consolidated financial statements and footnotes.Experience in various technical accounting matters, including mergers and acquisitions.Demonstrated success building relationships across various levels within an organization.Demonstrated excellent written and oral professional communication skills and keen attention to detail.Strong analytical and problem resolution skills, including the ability to research and simplify complex situations.Ability to independently research complex accounting transactions/issues.Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex financial information and transactions and accounting principles.Computer Skills:To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and internet navigation/research. Workday Finance Platform experience a plus.Certificates and Licenses:Active Certified Public Accountant license required.Valid driver’s license required.Supervisory Responsibilities:The position may have supervisory responsibilities.Work Environment:Standard indoor working environment.Long periods of sitting while working at computer.Occasional long periods of standing.Position requires regular interaction with employees at all levels of the Firm, Interface with external vendors also necessary.Independent travel requirement: Less than 10%.Equal Opportunity Employer: disability/veteran
