Job Summary:Provides support to the VP, Quality and Patient Safety by overseeing the day-to-day operational activities of Clinical Documentation Specialists. In collaboration with physician advisors, this individual must be able to apply principles of leadership and human relations in the overall supervision of nurse clinical documentation personnel and program. Maintains specific standards in accordance with national standards for accurate coding using the most recent references. In collaboration with the Staff Development department participates in the design, implementation and evaluation of orientation, staff development, and continuing education relevant to staff. Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
Minimally 5 years clinical practice in acute, inpatient, setting and effectively utilize knowledge of clinical care and documentation, and to fulfill established quality and quantity standards for the job is required. Two years experience as a clinical documentation improvement specialist or coordinator required.
EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:
Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of a program at an accredited School of Nursing or equivalent experience required. Certification in clinical documentation is preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION:
Interpersonal skills necessary to instruct and maintain effective contacts with a variety of hospital personnel. Analytical skills necessary to identify and clarify clinical care plans, statistical reports, implement effective productivity measures and reports. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of work time when resolving documentation of care problems and dealing with provider teams to make change.
LICENSURE DESCRIPTION:
Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact). RN/OT/PT/SLP
