Join SMRT's Civil Engineering group and be part of our dynamic team. Collaborate through the integrated design process with experts across architecture, structural, electrical, site, and interiors to shape innovative solutions from start to finish. Dive into projects requiring design of site layout, drainage, and utility infrastructure, making a direct impact on owner operations, maintenance, and sustainability. Perform land use permitting requiring complex coordination with the design team and regulatory agencies. Beyond design, engage in exciting pursuits and business development, working alongside top-of-their-game professionals to deliver cutting-edge, sustainable solutions.

What our Civil Engineers Do:
  • Provide civil engineering services for public and private clients in multiple markets including health care, education, STEM, government, judicial, and commercial projects.
  • Perform civil engineering design tasks for projects from preliminary to final design.
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, construction drawings, and bid packages.
  • Establish working relationships and coordination with client technical staff and project staff with state and local governments and regulatory agencies.
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in performing civil engineering design including site evaluation, layout and traffic design, drainage and erosion control, and utility infrastructure. Develop standards of care for performing design and preparing drawings and documents.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance.
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective action


Skills you need to be successful in this role:
  • Proficient in site master planning, design, construction administration, and land use and environmental permitting.
  • Knowledge and experience with national, state, and local ordinances, codes, and regulations as they pertain to civil engineering and site design.
  • Strong experience working on multi-disciplinary projects. Ability to relate and interact with other disciplines to coordinate site infrastructure with building features.
  • Construction administration experience including understanding of site materials, systems, and construction methods.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong oral presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines on multiple projects.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, Microsoft Office, and other project software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of site design, master planning and civil engineering experience.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, with the ability to acquire licenses in multiple states.
