Position Summary:

The Deputy Director of Compensation and Benefits supports the Director in overseeing and implementing the organization's compensation and benefits programs. This role requires a highly organized and analytical professional with strong project management skills and a deep understanding of benefits strategy and compliance.

The Deputy Director, Compensation & Benefits will:
  • Benefits Strategy and Implementation: Assist in the strategic planning and implementation of comprehensive compensation and benefits programs including health, dental, retirement, and wellness plans. Ensure these programs meet employee needs and comply with legal requirements.
  • Project Management: Lead projects related to compensation and benefits administration, from design through execution, ensuring they are completed accurately and on time. Monitor ongoing projects and adjust plans as necessary to meet objectives.
  • Policy Development and Compliance: Support the Director in developing policies that align with the latest compensation and benefits trends and regulations. Ensure all compensation and benefits programs are compliant with federal, state, and city laws.
  • Operational Efficiency: Streamline compensation and benefits processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Use analytical skills to assess program performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization about compensation and benefits options and changes. Manage relationships with external vendors and consultants to ensure service excellence.
  • Training and Development: Educate HR staff and employees on compensation and benefits-related topics. Develop materials and sessions for open enrollments and ongoing employee support.
  • Reporting and Analytics: Oversee the preparation and submission of required regulatory filings, such as 5500s and PBGC contributions. Analyze compensation and benefits data to provide insights and recommendations for adjustments.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in employee benefits, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of benefit plan compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of State, Federal and NYC legal requirements related to Human Resources including EEO, ADA, Workers' Compensation, Wage and Hour, COBRA, etc.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Programs.
  • Experience with reporting and HRIS systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and respond to people in a timely manner.
  • Nonprofit experience is a plus.

This position is contingent upon grant funding. We are proactively recruiting candidates prior to the grant award to expedite the hiring process. While grant funding is not guaranteed, we expect funding to be available until early 2027.
