AWC is hiring a Director of Compensation & Benefits at our corporate office in Tacoma, WA. This position comes with an amazing benefits package, competitive compensation and a family atmosphere!

The salary range for this position is $140,000-$200,000 annually with an anticipated starting salary between $140,000-$170,000 depending on qualifications. This position is eligible for an annual bonus based on company performance.

Overview

The Director of Compensation & Benefits directs compensation and benefits programs for all associates in the U.S. and Canada, in both union and non-union environments. Reporting to the VP of Human Resources, this role is key to developing and maintaining a total rewards strategy that supports the company's short- and long-term business goals. The Director will lead a team, oversee vendor partnerships, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and company policies.

Essential Duties
  • Design and manage compensation and benefits programs to attract, engage, and retain top talent, including health, wellness, retirement, and compensation plans.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to align total rewards with business needs, promote understanding, and drive employee engagement.
  • Oversee relationships with third-party vendors, negotiate contracts, and manage both departmental and company-wide benefits budgets.
  • Mentor and lead the compensation and benefits team, fostering continuous improvement and high performance.
  • Ensure all programs comply with U.S. and Canadian laws and stay current on industry trends and best practices.
  • Lead compensation- and benefits-related projects related to the HRIS system and other HR initiatives, collaborating with internal and external teams.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience in compensation and benefits, including 5 years in a leadership role. Experience working with unions preferred.
  • Certifications such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, CEBS, CCP, or CBP are preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian compensation and benefit regulations.
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of building and motivating teams.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office, especially Excel; UKG experience is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.


Work Environment
  • Office environment with extended periods of sitting, computer use, and occasional public speaking.
  • Although the position is located at the company headquarters in Tacoma, Washington, occasional travel, both domestic and international, is required.
  • This position is currently hybrid, allowing for both remote and in-office work. The hybrid schedule is subject to change at any time at the direction of the VP of HR or the Board.
