NATURE OF WORK:
To provide leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of the computer services program to promote effective and efficient operations for the school system's financial and reporting program, including; server-based applications, cloud applications, and AS/400 computing services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Must have system administrator experience maintaining file servers running Microsoft Windows Server and running an IBM AS/400 computer system for a finance office
  • Performing security and risk management tasks, including; user account maintenance, object authorizations and access rights assignment, and system backups.
  • Proficiencies should include: AS/400 Query, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft VBA, SQL, and Microsoft Query.
  • Must be able to install hardware and software and perform basic hardware maintenance tasks.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
  • Bachelor's Degree and two years related experience OR five years of related experience
  • NC school system finance office experience is highly desirable
  • Valid NC driver's license
  • Satisfactorily complete required background checks

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month

SALARY: NC State Salary Schedule

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides effective leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans for a comprehensive, system-wide support structure for finance department.
  • servers, AS/400 equipment, and financial applications.
  • Assists in the development of in-service staff development for school and central staff and other school system personnel in the area of financial services.
  • Communicates the system's vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Coordinates system-level resources.
  • Prepares budgets, coordinates with other departments or agencies to assure maximum services and resources, and maintains records/reports/inventories in accordance with local/state/federal policies.
  • Provides assistance to end users in the solution of end user computing and query problems.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, planning, upgrades, and trouble shooting on various computer systems including; finance department servers, the AS/400, and applications.
  • Designs, recommends, and installs modifications to computer equipment.
  • Recommends improvements in procedures, policies, standards, and processes.
  • Ensures security of finance department file servers and the AS/400 system and serves as system administrator, maintaining appropriate user accounts and access restrictions and ensuring appropriate backups are maintained.
  • Creates custom Excel applications and queries utilizing knowledge of financial applications and other NC school system related applications to support the finance office in areas including general ledger, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable and fixed assets.
  • Monitors and coordinates downloads and uploads of data and software updates with the NC Department of Public Instruction and other pertinent users.
  • Subject to call-in/short notice to respond to computer related emergencies. Job duties may require frequent travel between school sites.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, carry, push, or pull.
  • Ability to transport technology and equipment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds routinely and 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to visually and auditorily effectively communicate with staff and students.
  • Must be able to drive to variety of school sites.
