Assistant Controller - Gulf

The Assistant Controller - Gulf Coast, will provide functional, technical and process leadership insights. This position will assist the Controller in overseeing and coordinating organizational accounting functions and all activities related to accounting services provided to internal and external customers. Other functions include assisting the Controller with the implementation of the organization's accounting principles, practices, and procedures. This position is expected to assist in various ad hoc reporting requests as well as various departmental projects and initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Controller with the preparation of external financial statements with an expedited deliverable date and various monthly reporting and reconciliation reports primarily related to Gulf Coast Operations.
  • Assist with the external audit, including providing supporting documentation and analysis related to Gulf Coast Operations.
  • Take an active role in the annual budget and quarterly forecasting process related to Gulf Coast Operations.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Gulf Coast weekly profitability reports, including aiding the Accounting Manager - Gulf Coast, with the monthly revenue projections.
  • Manage the monthly reporting package and facilitate any chart of account changes throughout the various financial reports.
  • Develop and distribute any ad hoc reporting requests from other departments.
  • Oversee unique close considerations related to boat movement, location changes and other accounting structure adjustments in conjunction with other team members. Ensure changes are accurately reflected in processes and reporting.
  • Assist with analysis and review of the organization's financial performance by collecting, analyzing and reporting financial and statistical data.
  • Lead monthly financial review meetings with the Gulf Coast and Executive Management team comparing budget vs actual financial results.
  • Oversee the preparation and recording of month-end close journal entries to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Supervise the Gulf Coast Operations Accounting team, including the Accounting Manager-Gulf Coast, and Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable support team.
  • Manage intercompany balances between affiliates, including facilitating intercompany transfers and reconciling intercompany eliminations.
  • Aid in preparing the financial statements and distributing of the monthly reporting package to management and the Board of Directors.
  • Supervise and oversee monthly and quarterly general ledger reconciliations.
  • Stay current on regulations and other industry news change side executive summaries to management.
  • Challenge and improve the Company's control environment, develop new control processes as needed, and take responsibility to ensure the successful implementation of the new processes.
  • Assist the Controller, and others within the department, with various state property taxes, ad valorem taxes and applicable Sales and Use Tax.
  • Serve as a leader with any software application implementations the Company undertakes, specifically related to financial or accounting.
  • Handle special projects as requested by management.
  • Assist with implementation and further development of divisional software solutions, improving the efficiency and efficiency of processes impacting internal and external stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Displays vast working knowledge of GAAP reporting.
  • Possesses strong leadership, supervisory, and management abilities.
  • Has excellent critical thinking as well as analytical skills.
  • Possesses exceptional organizational skills and is an effective time manager and multi-tasker.
  • Displays extensive knowledge of financial accounting software programs and an aptitude for learning new software applications.
  • Exceptional Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, etc.).
  • Displays good interpersonal skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to act decisively, pay attention to minute details, and make strong sound judgments.
  • Ability to operate in a systematic and logical manner.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Patience, self-confidence, and ability to lead and inspire a team approach to all aspects of the job.
  • Experience with internal control design and documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from a certified institution.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Big 4 or large regional accounting firm experience a plus.
  • 6 - 10 years of experience

Physical Capabilities:
  • Carry, push, pull or move 10 pounds regularly, or up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to sit up to 8 hours per day
