About the Role:

Based in San Francisco, CRI is a top tier commercial furnishings consultancy focused on excellence in workplace strategy and design. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our dynamic team here at CRI. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sales tax compliance, with a focus on both California and multistate regulations, and a passion for accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting.

Based out of the San Francisco office, the Staff Accountant is eligible to participate in our Flexible Workplace where you may work from home 3 days out of the week.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns for multiple states, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sales tax laws and regulations, including any changes that may affect the company's operations.
  • Oversee and manage sales tax audits from multiple states, ensuring compliance and effective interaction with regulators.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to ensure accurate tax calculations on customer invoices.
  • Conduct regular audits of sales tax processes and records to identify and correct any discrepancies.
  • Assist with financial reporting, including the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Support the accounting department with general ledger maintenance and month-end closing activities.
  • Provide guidance and training to other team members on sales tax matters.
  • Learn to operate new office technologies as they are developed and implemented.
  • Read through contracts, regulations, and procedural guidelines to ensure comprehension and compliance.
  • Represent work unit at meetings or conferences and serve as liaison for requests.


Requirements

Experience/Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in sales tax preparation and filing, preferably within the furniture industry or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of California sales tax laws and experience with multistate sales tax compliance.
  • Understand the significance and impact of sales processes on retail sales, contributing to informed financial strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Self-starting, solutions-oriented, energetic, analytical, strategic, creative, and results-oriented with a strong background in bookkeeping.
  • Must be detailed, organized, flexible and service oriented with the ability to multi-task, problem solve and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe PDF.
  • Preference for candidates with experience in QuickBooks and CORE, demonstrating capability in financial software for efficient accounting management.

Salary Description

$80,000 - $100,000
