Remotely . In this role, you will work with our organization's department to make improvements to specific web application interfaces and other web software deployed within the entire organization. You will assist in scripting software for deployment throughout a company's data and communication platforms.Responsibilities:
Identify and implement improvements to the CDC WONDER web application and application programming interface (API) for ease of use by partners.Support data ETL procedures from disparate data sources into Wonder databases.Understand and integrate existing workflows, policies, and procedures for development and promotion of web application and data.Improve and automate internal system documentation for the WONDER web application (app).Improve WONDER "chart" capabilities.Support R&D efforts for optimizing data migration to "CSELS Data Lake" and cloud platforms.Support testing, troubleshooting, and updating of the TopoJSON mapping service implemented in the WONDER web app.Support user interface updates to the WONDER web app to support new analytic capabilities.Research and develop potential prototypes for replacing the current chart engine (an open-source Java library) implemented in the WONDER web app.Research and develop potential prototypes for new analytic measures and visualizations for the WONDER online databases. Perform troubleshooting and investigation of seeming spurious exceptions thrown when automated testing benchmarks are run in production.Update the Apache Tomcat and Java libraries for WONDER web app, subsequent testing, and release.Research and develop potential prototypes for modernization activities associated with the Cloud Data Lake migration and Enterprise Data Analytics and Visualization (EDAV) platform on Azure cloud (part of the Modernization Initiative).Produce a JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) wrapper for the existing XML-based Automated Programming interface for WONDER online databases.Develop HL7 FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) metadata descriptors for public health surveillance system data available on WONDER. Perhaps begin with the NNDSS tables and later expand the capability to include standard API results for the WONDER online databases.Develop an XSL script to produce information on the valid elements, flags, and values.Develop recommendations, prototypes, and implementation plan for updating or replacing the current "chart" capabilities for WONDER web app.Develop and implement script changes to support NNDSS data publication.Research and develop potential prototypes for improving or replacing the TopoJSON mapping service.Implement update to the Apache Tomcat and Java libraries for the WONDER web app; perform subsequent testing and develop plans for release.Test and develop plans for updating the Apache Tomcat and Java libraries for the WONDER web app.Submit monthly status reports on activities and deliverables.Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 3+ years of hands-on support experience.Experience developing and supporting web applications implemented in Java, C#, XSL languages that are hosted on IIS and Apache Tomcat.Experience administering IIS web server and Apache Tomcat servlet engine.Experience developing and supporting APIs that return XML and JSON.Experience utilizing databases such as Microsoft Access or SQL for analysis and web application and API development.Experienced with managing outstanding tickets as well as expertise using ticket management systems such as ServiceNow.Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills that enable communication with all levels of employees and management.Experience providing help desk support to executive leadership.Microsoft Office and SharePoint experience.Security, Salary, and Benefits:
