Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

Job Purpose:The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring safety requirements across various short and long-term projects. The position supports and collaborates with the HSE Manager to implement safety strategies, conduct inspections, investigate incidents, and provide expert advice and training while fostering a safety culture throughout the organization.
Major Accountabilities:
Support and Advise:Collaborate with project teams, offering expert guidance on risk assessment, and mitigation plans and fostering a positive safety culture.
Implementation and Monitoring (Terrestrial Projects and Facilities Operations):Assist the HSE Manager in implementing HSE strategies, monitoring policies, procedures, and standards across projects, and provide a report for all aspects of HSE operations.
Communication and Development:Develop and maintain clear communication with all staff levels, providing timely support and guidance.
External Liaison:Communicate effectively with external stakeholders (authorities, clients, consultants, contractors) to ensure coordinated and compliant HSE management.
Incident Management:Investigate site accidents and incidents, analyze causes, and recommend corrective actions.
Training and Awareness:Develop and deliver HSE training for project staff and ensure compliance with training.
Inspection and Auditing:Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and address potential hazards. Investigate near-misses and implement preventive measures. Be able to travel to remote project locations for HSE inspections.
Emergency Preparedness:Develop and implement HSE plans, and emergency response procedures.
Promotion and Collaboration:Collaborate with HSE professionals and line management to promote safety initiatives and Cause No Harm campaigns.
Safe Equipment and Facilities:Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and rectify potential hazards. Work collaboratively to resolve issues.
Person Requirements:
Competencies:Strong understanding of relevant HSE regulations and best practices.Experience developing and delivering training programs.Excellent communication in Arabic and English, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.Ability to conduct inspections, audits, and investigations.Proactive, safety-focused, and detail-oriented approach.Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in health & safety, Environmental Science, or related field.CSP and/or rescue diver are favorable, but not a requirement.International certification in an applicable HSE area preferred (i.e., IOSH, NEBOSH, CHST, etc.).
Experience:Minimum of 5 years' experience in a health and safety specialist role, or similar field.
