Salary: $36,275.00 AnnuallyLocation : Augusta, GAJob Type: Full Time PermanentJob Number: 201203584Department: FIRE-ADMINISTRATIONOpening Date: 07/09/2024Closing Date: ContinuousDESCRIPTION Performs tasks in repairing and maintaining light vehicles and small engine equipment independently and medium and heavy diesel vehicles under direct supervision of advanced Emergency Vehicle Technicians within the guidelines of departmental standards and procedures, verbal instructions, and manufacturers' guidance. Provides grounds maintenance, delivers and picks up vehicles from vendors. Cleans and maintains vehicles, equipment, containers, and the shop area. Reports to the Emergency Vehicle Maintenance Manager or other designated person, works with other departmental employees and the customer to provide maintenance support. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs scheduled preventive maintenance for light emergency vehicles and small engine equipment: changes oil, hydraulic fluid, air filters, fuel filters, and other expendables as required; inspects seals, hoses, and tires for wear or damage; and arranges replacement as needed.Performs inspections of light emergency vehicles and small engine equipment: tests equipment to check for malfunctions; inspects and tests all vehicle systems, including drive train, engine operation, transmission operation, suspension, steering, brakes, hydraulics, electrical system, and HVAC; utilizes diagnostic tools; determine corrective measures to be applied; completes or revises work order for repairs; pulls, fabricates, or orders required parts; and maintains related documentation.Repairs light emergency vehicles and small engine equipment: gathers information from operator reports, equipment manuals, and fault codes; troubleshoots and diagnoses electrical, hydraulic and engine problems; utilizes multi-meter, test light, pressure gauges, flow meters, vacuum and compression gauges, etc.; identifies items and systems needing repair; completes required repairs; and ensures equipment operation and performance is within specified limits.Operates or uses various machinery, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains maintenance equipment; maintains a mechanics tool set; and maintains equipment-specific tool kits.Repairs tires; dismounts and inspects tires to find problems; repairs, mounts, inflates, and balances tires; and performs changes or repairs in the field as required.Performs limited welds and parts fabrication: welds broken parts; fabricates replacement parts; replaces parts or structures to vehicles; and verifies parts operate according to specifications.Performs other duties, as assigned.POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:Maintenance/Repair of equipment WeldingDocumentation of repair work (paper and computer based)Cleaning of shop area MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School diploma or G.E.D.Experience: Three (3) years' experience in automotive and small engine repair and maintenance.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Processes limited knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of servicing and repairing equipment; drivetrains, suspensions and braking systems, heating and air conditioning, electrical, air, hydraulic and other related systems; the use and operation of tools and machinery used in equipment repair work; the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.Possesses limited proficiency in diagnosing malfunctions or defects in equipment, adapting available tools and parts to specific repair problems and interpreting technical instructions from manufacturer's manuals and bulletins or other related data.Ability to properly complete written and computerized repair order documentation.Ability to use common office equipment and basic computer software (word processing, email)Ability to read and write at least at an 8th grade level.Ability to utilize computerized maintenance management systems.Demonstrated ability to perform work independently.Proficiency in first aid, CPR, and AED.Good communication skills, both oral and written.Possess mathematical skills and ability to take accurate measurements. Certification: Must possess ASE certification in cars within 12 months of hire.Must obtain EVT within 12 months of hire. Licensing:Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
