Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant (RPA) works in collaboration with the Interventional Radiologists to provide Comprehensive Care for patients. The Physician Assistant is responsible for the following tasks: pre-assessment, intervention, and evaluation; completing history and physical exams, ordering diagnostic studies, interpreting test results, performing radiological procedures under imaging guidance, providing oral and written communication with referring physicians and other clinical staff, developing and implementing patient treatment plans all under the guidelines set forth in the policies and procedures and Bylaws of South Texas Health System (STHS). As a clinical leader for the Interventional Radiology program, the PA is involved in process improvement projects and is an educational resource for patients, families, and staff. Potentially, the PA will play a vital role in the community outreach programs for disseminating information for new and advanced radiological technologies that are available for service.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. The job requires at least 12 months of clinical experience and expertise within the radiology department.
2. The Radiology Physician Assistant should be a role model nursing professional through conduct, communication, leadership, ethical decision making and problem-solving skills. The PA will maintain current BLS, ACLS, and PALS training.
3. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
The Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant should have the following:
1. Must have and maintain current BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Certifications must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA for Healthcare Provider's Program.
2. Must achieve master's as a physician assistant in radiology.
3. A current license from the Texas Medical Board to practice as a Physician Assistant.
4. Preferably with National accreditation certification in the area of specialty.
5. No physical and/or mental impairment which prevents him or her from exercising the granted privileges
6. An agreement with a physician(s) currently appointed to the medical staff of the hospital to supervise the PA's practice in the hospital
