Job Overview

Peer tutors in the Student Success Center at Ensign College provide tutoring assistance in one or more specific subject areas in which they have knowledge and expertise. These subject areas may include, but are not limited to:

Math, Accounting, Writing, Excel, Interior Design, Computer Science, IT, Health Professions, etc.

Tableau tutors provide help and clarification and reinforce concepts taught in the classroom. Hours are flexible and can generally be scheduled according to the tutor's class schedule. Tutoring is to be done on campus, with few exceptions.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Meet with students one-on-one, in small groups, via Zoom, or walk-in to provide learning assistance.

• Tutor in class when possible.

• Be familiar with the subject matter and reinforce the teaching methods used within the course.

• Build professional relationships with students and assist them in their individual tutoring needs.

• Uphold student confidentiality when appropriate.

• Maintain the CES Dress and Grooming Standards.

Upon hire, tutors will be required to:

• Complete a 10-hour mandatory tutor-training session for CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) ITTPC (International Tutor Training Program Certification) certification.

• Attend additional mandatory staff training with the Tutoring Coordinator as needed.

Minimum eligibility requirements:

• Must be a current Ensign student in good standing and enrolled in at least six (6) credits each semester of employment.

• Have taken and received a minimum "B+" grade in one or more of the following courses: BA 140, BA 147.

• Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• Receive an Ensign College faculty endorsement in each subject tutored (obtained by the Tutoring Coordinator).

• Demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills while understanding and supporting the mission of Ensign College and the Student Success Center.

• Be confident in your ability to interact with diverse populations (cultural, disability, non-traditional students, etc.) and varying levels of academic skill.

• Be patient, kind, reliable, encouraging, and trustworthy.

• Have a strong attention to detail and follow all processes/procedures as required.

• Commitment to abide by the CES Honor Code and demonstrate principles of living with honor both on and off campus.
