Position Summary:

The Controller will play a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity and performance of the organization. This position will oversee all accounting functions, including month-end close, accounting operations, SEC reporting, and compliance activities. The role demands strong leadership, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of financial processes. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in building and leading high-performing teams for publicly traded biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies. Reporting to the VP, Finance, this role will lead a growing team of accounting professionals and will work closely with cross-functional partners across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP
  • Oversee SEC reporting, including 10-K, 10-Q, and other required filings
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, payroll, and stock plan administration
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls in compliance with SOX
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and quarterly reviews
  • Develop and execute critical accounting processes related to clinical trial accounting, external manufacturing, outsourced research agreements, and revenue recognition
  • Lead the process for technical accounting analysis related to M&A, significant transactions, and the implementation of new accounting standards
  • Oversee tax compliance activities in partnership with external advisors, including the annual provision, federal tax return, and state/local tax
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain financial management systems, procedures, and infrastructure that support the current and future organization
  • Lead or participate in special projects, including system implementations, process improvement efforts, diligence activities, etc.
  • Provide financial leadership and strategic guidance to support the company's growth objectives


Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA required
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within public accounting and/or at a publicly traded company.


Other Qualifications:
  • Experience in early-stage life sciences is a plus
  • Leadership experience in scaling the accounting function in complex, high-growth companies
  • Big 4 accounting experience is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance
  • Proficiency with financial software and ERP systems
  • Experience implementing financial systems in a SOX environment is a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, and strong attention to detail
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is comfortable managing change and ambiguity
  • Ability to attract, retain, develop, and motivate top talent
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organization, and across other functional areas
  • Strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.

Salary range

$225,000 - $275,000
